Trashed my umbilical

Yahoo Message Number: 109354
Leaving a parking lot after lunch the other day I crossed a drainage swale and grounded the receiver hitch on the asphalt. The electric umbilical to the toad was caught under the hitch and completely severed. Since it was Xmas weekend, I haven't been able to get new cable yet, but will buy a piece tomorrow and make up a new cable. I'm betting the act of grinding the cable through to the hitch probably shorted some circuits and will have blown fuses that I'll have to replace to get the toad powered up again.

So: any of you CC folk know where fuses for the towed control circuits would likely be found? Would sure appreciate not having to start in the electronics bay and work through the whole rig trying to find them...

Appreciate any advice!

On my 07 Intrigue 530 the fuse box for the tow lights is located right of center on the wall of the engine compartment. You should be looking right at it when you open the passenger side door of the engine compartment.

Hi Don,

Unless you had your lights on or your foot on the brake is unlikely that you blew any fuses. Lucky this was the middle of the day!

Speaking of when you repair the cable disconnect from the car to test with a meter then if you miswire you won't blow a fuse either.

Thanks to all who've replied. I did have my lights on (I run with them on all the time) and had a turn signal on too, so I expect to have blown a fuse or two. Believe I've located the fuse box after talking with Kevin Waite (thanks Kevin), on the forward wall of the engine compartment. I'll be putting it all back together today and will post the results. One thing for sure: I'll run that umbilical ABOVE the stinger, not let it hang below as before!

Final report - replaced the umbilical, and "armored" it with a piece of very heavy duty reinforced plastic hose from Home Depot. Then ran it ABOVE the stinger and zip-tied it in place, to prevent similar events in future. But sure enough, on test the running lights were not working, though turns and brake were OK. So: opened the fuse box on forward wall of engine compartment, right top. One of five 25A fuses was blown, replaced it and VOILA, all is well!

Much thanks to all especially Kevin for the excellent assistance!
