Direct TV/Tivo

Yahoo Message Number: 8646
I am interested in getting a Direct TV/Tivo receiver for my motorhome. We travel for months at a time and never have a land line.
Has anybody tried this? After two or three months of not being connected to a phone line are you still able to use all of the Tivo features? I ran into one man in my travels who claimed that he has being doing it for two years. Occaisionally he gets a message on his receiver which he ignores and all the tivo features work. I am looking for more confirmation.

We actually have two TiVo's in our coach, one for me & one for my wife.

You do not need a phone line... after 14 days you will get a nag screen, another at about 30 days then a daily nag screen there after.
I have gone over 180 days without calling in & have friends that haven't in over a year. You will lose the ability to order Pay for Views with your remote but we order them over the internet so it is no problem.

Hi

I've had TIVO with Direct TV for about 1 year now. I wouldn't have television without it. However, if you fail to make a telephone call about once every 3 to 4 weeks or so, the unit will stop recording. You can still use it for sat TV reception, but no advanced set up for recording and now recording at all.

There a lots of caveats about TIVO which I learned. I'd be happy to share then.
