C9 cat running hot

I know this subject has been beat to death. I picked up a 06 Inspire with the C9 cat. today it slowly began to overheat like all the others I can unplug the 3 prong connection to the fan controller an the fan goes to high speed , engine cools right down. I'm still 600 miles from home, I can run about 58 mph an temp stays barely below the hot point. My question is will it hurt to unplug controller an let fan run high speed all the way home. I drove it like that a couple miles an it cooled right down but it seemed like the transmission didn't shift normal. I'd like to run 65 or 70 but didn't know if it would hurt to run fan on high for 600 miles. Thanks

It will not hurt to let your fan run on high. It might affect your fuel economy slightly, that's it. Overheating is not good.

The fan on our C12 ran on high for a couple of months and a couple of thousand miles before we figured out that it was the Sauer-Danfoss coolant sensor. We replaced the air and coolant sensors and the fan resumed cycling normally. Don't know why your transmission would change behavior.

While it's not optimum for the engine to run at a lower than normal temperature, the most annoying effect of the fan running at high speed all the time is the extreme air turbulence at the rear of the coach. It kicks up a real dust storm any place that is not paved and swept clean.

Your fuel mileage will suffer a little bit and you can hear the fan make a little bit more noise but otherwise there is no problem. I have been running mine controlling the temperature by turning the fan on and off for several years now. I added a switch on the dash that allows me to interrupt the power to the fan and I just monitor the temperature - turn the fan on high whenever the temperature goes over about 210-215 degrees.

I think now that I've drove it on high for awhile trans is fine , the roar of the fan just made it sound like it needed to shift quicker. Thanks

At 55 mph I would loose about 12% at 63 mph , 16% and at 70, 20%. When I changed to the wax control valve, I gained between 10 and 15 % over normal operation. . So thats a total change of almost 30% at 63mph. Thats similar to lowering the price of diesel from $3 per gallon to $2.10. Who wouldn't want to do that? How many 40,000+ lb. Intrigues do you know that can get consistantly over 8.5 mpg and close to 9 at 63 mph. I admit going from Durango to Ouray I'm in the low 7's, or Climbing over the grades west out of Jackson Hole or Calistoga, Ca. But then the grades are pushing 10 or 11 %. On a typical windy day heading west against our famous 50 mph winds has me down in the low 7's or High 6's, too. But if I'm heading east I can al most reach 9.5 mpg. TWInsall Jr 2004 Intrigue 11731.
