Coolant smell from green hydronic heater hoses

Since switching from the green stuff to Rotella ELC 2 years ago, I have noticed that I no longer get a smell that I can detect inside the coach when running the Hurricane.

How did you change the coolant in the system? I also have a Hurricane and smell the "green" stuff. The coolant I'm using is "safe" for such applications as the potable water and heating system are combined. Is the Rotella safe for this situation?

ELC engine coolant including Rotella is not "safe" for freshwater systems. Neither is the green normal heavy duty coolant. The kind of Hurricane I have does not produce domestic hot water. It has engine assist which is a pipe welded to the OUTSIDE rear of the Atwood water heater. It is virtually impossible for the engine coolant to get into the hot water tank where the fresh water is. Something would have to physically penetrate the wall of the heater and the wall of the thick aluminum tube welded to the outside of the heater. There is nothing to worry about if this is what you have. Hurricane made a model that produces domestic hot water and I cannot speak to the issue of toxic engine coolant and that model.

John, as far as changing the coolant if you search this group there are numerous threads on how to do it. You will need to chemically flush the system using one of the Fleet Products, and then flush the system out many times freshwater. It takes all day to do it properly and you have to make sure you get the hurricane and the cab heater as well.
