Generator Tray Open/Close Worm Gear Binding Up

Yahoo Message Number: 116056
I have a colleague with a generator gear that has bound up and stopped with the unit about 8 inches out, on an 2006. The motor will try to operate but is unable to move the tray in or out.
Any ideas on the problem and a solution?

I replaced my drive assembly when it acted in a similar manner. They are not repairable.
The manufacturer is the same company as the gear slide system. Bob 06Intrigue 12047

Lee, Gary Glenn here. I had to replace the entire ram on mine the existing one is no longer available no parts either. If you call Eric Olstrom he has the name of the one and only one that would work without a lot of modification. It works fine just runs a little slower than the old one. I bet you didn't think it could go slower, right. It wasn't to expensive Best I remember it was $200 and change.

Parts may be available from the original supplier of the generator tray actuator. I don't know when Country Coach switched to a different supplier butKnudtson Mfg. in Junction Citymade ours and they are still in business. Here's a link to a thread on what I did to repair ours.

Hi All,

Just went through this, old parts are not available, called and looked everywhere.
On mine the key-way in the plastic gear stripped, everything else was fine.

I bought a new one on Ebay, search Heavy Duty 30" Linear Actuator, 225 pound lift, 12 volt. $90.
Way smaller that the original one but works great. Does not have a limit switch stop so when the slide is closed let off the button.

Also found a company Firgelli Automations, they have one that is 400 pound and 30" stroke as well. If the first one failed I was going here next. Product code RB-Fra-89. This one is way more heavy duty.

I had the same problem. Ask him if he had anyone working on the coach. This happened to me when I took the coach in to have the tires rotated and an untrained technician jacked the front of the coach at the generator tray and bent the tray and the rails. You can diagnose by disconnecting the screw drive from the front of the generator tray and seeing if the screw drive will drive in/out with the tray disconnected. If this is the case, then you need to take it somewhere (machine shop / Old School Truck repair place, etc) where they will put the coach on a lift and go in and literally straighten it out where its bent. Heating it up, clamps, chains, hydraulic spreaders, clamps etc....

They were able to straighten my tray for about $400 which the tire repair place repaid (they felt horrible about not supervising the technician). The tray is still slightly bent and the gap between the body piece on the front of the tray and the coach body above it is slightly larger on one side.

I tried to see if I could get a new tray and they are obsolete and the business that made them is no longer in business. Next step would be to have a new tray completely manufactured, which would mean swapping out the geneset etc, etc which would be a really expensive proposition.
