Quieting Air Conditioner

So we don't take over a post... I have a couple of questions from your post.
If I understood your post you purchased that "Wacko Silencer Kit". But
Added some additional filter products to the exhaust vents.

Did you put these additional filters "Inside" this new Kit?

You said you taped them to this Silencer. I read it as
You taped them to the outside. I'm not sure if my DW would
Like or enjoy blue or green tape in her scheme of decoration

We did not buy the silencer that I referenced. Thinking of doing so, but have not yet.

RV.Air had a filter that would be taped to the bottom of the existing grill. It was a piece of plastic she[ed to my Dometic Penguin II return. It had a better filter then the flimsy filters that are on the inside of the return grill, but it was in no ways going to filter heavy smoke, and other crud (Techie word!) in the air...

Due to the fire smoke impact, I called 3M and bought the filter they recommended - it's a standard heater/AC home filter. That is what I cut to shape and fit into the RV.Air plastic casing, that was taped to the bottom of the return. It did a much better job of filtration, of that generation of RV.Air's filtration. (And a bonus, is it quieted the sound of that AC unit. This was at the price of reduced air flow, but was worth it due to the extreme bad air condition....)

OK - that's the background.

Back to the 'silencing' of the AC noise as a primary goal. The device I linked does this, in addition, it also has be better filter too - so another plus.

Another bit of info sharing, back to the RV.Air.. They now have a new group of filters that are 'drop in' for existing many RV's AC units.

IMO, this is a better solution to the older RV.Air product, as it is not sticking down into the inside of the coach, and I believe it is a better filter at doing what filters do = filtration. I think another side benefit, is the better filter air, would slightly reduce the noise...

I have not, yet, tried one of these new filters - and I'll my retain my Macgyver use of the older RV.Air filtration piece of plastic - with my higher filtration filter for in case of fires smoke situations. But I suspect the new RV.Air filter available, is a good thing to have for normal AC running.

Still rambling here:)! I final bit of input to consider. IF AC NOISE IS THE PRIMARY CONCERN, try the new Silencer unit from WACO. And a bonus, it will be a better filter then the existing OEM AC filters (At least for a Dometic.).

No right or wrong on these, just choices. Me? Well I'm thinking I'll put the WackO Silencer Kit on our Front Living Area AC - as it would be nice to run it without having to blast the TV or Stereo. In the rear, or for those with three AC's, the other two units - I'll get the new RV.Air filter. (And again, I'll retain my taped on the bottom of the return super filter for in case of fire smoke situations...)
