Tail Lights Out

Yahoo Message Number: 8858
I finally got my lights back on at the March 2004 CCI rally in Tucson. The CC technician spent hours trying to follow the wiring diagram in my user's guide. Boy, was he getting frustrated! Here is what he found:

The wiring diagram, entitled "Headlight Circuit" starting with coach #5035, shows wire #10 (brown) carrying power from the headlight switch directly to the tail/marker lights. This is contradictory to the wire list, which shows wire #311 (brown) going from the run lights relay (location not specified) to the rear run lights, and wire #312 going from the trailer marker lights relay (location not specified) to the trailer hitch plug. Neither of these relays are shown anywhere in my user's guide.

In reality, wire #10 carries power from the headlight switch to a relay located in the fiberglas run box in the front cabinet, below the drivers seat. From there, wire #312 carries power back to the tail lights.

The technician simply cut the #10 wire at a multi-pin connecter in the run box, and attached it to a new relay. He grounded the other end of the relay coil to the ground pin of what looks like a starter solenoid relay, which already has a nice big green wire going to chassis ground. He then brought 12vdc power to the relay from a spare fuse holder in the runbox, hooked up wire #312 to the relay, and plugged in a 10 amp fuse in the fuse holder. Viola! There was light, and it was real good!

I hope this is clear and helpful. If not, drop me an e-mail to cecanterbury@.... I'll be happy to tell you of my experiences in Tucson. See you at homecoming this fall.
