Engine Compartment Trap Door

Does any one know the trick to open the engine trap door Looking from the engine side it looks like there are bolts threw the floor holding it down but inside the coach I think I found some metal screws around the outside edge of the door screwed thru the carpet. I blew out a charge air cooler boot this past weekend and it looks like it would be a lot easier to replace from above if I can open the door rather than on my back reaching from underneath.

Pull up closet door rack that the doors slide in. Then pull up carpeted piece. You will the see a number of 5/8" bolts holding that big trap door down. Remove and lift it up. Really easy access to what you are trying to do. Be carful, the trap door is dirty and heavy. Done this job a half dozen times now, very easy.

I have a 2002 Affinity with drawers across bottom and wardrobe above.
Took me a bit to figure out the one time I did it (to bypass the school bus pump/circulating pump that is a PITA to get to if it fails and dumps antifreeze while traveling).

Anyway, if yours is like mine, some of the steps are:
1- take out the screws that go through the carpet on the outer edges of the carpeted plywood that sits on top of the actual trap door.
2- take out screws that hold the carpet covered bed skirt near the trap door and remove that section
3- take out screws of carpeted kicker panel below drawers at back edge of trap door
4- i also had to loosen the bed frame where the it attaches to to floor near the trap door to get the trap door out. This also means you have to remove mattress and plywood under mattress to get to frame.
5- then you should be able to get the bolts out of the actual trap door. Trap door on mine has a lip at back/closet side of trap door with bolts.

Consider bypassing circulating pump while you are in there. Lots of threads on that.

I've never done it but the previous owner had it done in my Magna to have the valves adjusted. You have to take apart not just the mirrors but most of the bed. attached is a picture of what it looked like disassembled to get to the trap door.

I decided not to tear into the intierior to get to the engine area I removed the crush panel just behind the tag wheel this opened up the area around the radiator/cooler so I could replace the boot and the clamps. BTW the spring loaded clamps CC used even though they are stainless steel the springs will fatigue and break when it does it looses all compression and will come off replace with a non spring clamp !!!! All of the clamps on the turbo have springs.

One other thing I'm having one of my windshields replaced locally had a rock crack it but they are having issues figuring out the glass seal to use
Who is the outfit most CC users go to for replacement windshields they can call and get the seal from?
