Bathroom lighting

I'm having all kinds of trouble with AOL this AM. I sent this message a couple of hours ago and it hasn't shown up anywhere, so I assume it was lost. I apologize if it shows up twice.
I have finally decided I'm tired of the target being in a shadow and intend to install a light fixture on the underside of the cabinet just above the back of the commode. I've tried the stick-on battery type and have decided to go with a permanent fixture. Since I am electrically challenged I need some advice as to whether the existing switch for the bathroom lights can handle an additional fixture, or should I connect above the switch and use the fixture's own switch for the additional light. I've had several of the little switches with the light in them fail, so I don't want to cause problems. On the other hand it would be more convenient to turn on both lights with one switch. Can anyone out there help me? Fred?

I have had the battery type that you hit to turn it on for 3 years and it works well at night when you do not want to turn on a big light. It is just for the guys and it is held in place by velco. Never has fallen off.

I have finally decided to do something about the fact I am aiming in a shadow because the light fixture is behind me. I intend to install a light under the cabinet over and just behind the commode ( I have tried the stick-on battery powered ones)and believe there is plenty of room. Not being electically talented, however, I don't know whether the existing light switch can stand another fixture or whether I should tap into the wiring above the switch and use the fixture's own switch. What I have in mind is a small flourescent fixture, but am open to suggestions. Fred?

I went ahead and installed a light. The local RV store had a nice 6" flourescent fixture for which they wanted 50 bucks. For $14 I bought a fixture with two automotive type bulbs which really lights up the place. Bill G made a good point re having only that light on at night so I wired it ahead of the light switch and use the switch on the fixture.

A pretty small project, but one that will pay dividends.
