Spare Chair Stowage--another 'newbe question

Yahoo Message Number: 9067
Hi, anyone have a good way to stow the 2 extra dining chairs, the closets won't work for us so they must go in the lower bay but that is also hard on the chairs.

I thought of suspending them with bungee cords from the roof of the bay, but that seemd a bit hokie.

The previous owner must have had the same problem as both chairs needed to be repaired where they had been 'forced' to collapse more than they were designed.
Thanks for help----again.

I found a very workable solution for me and hope I can properly explain it. I've suspended the 2 folding chairs tight against the ceiling of the large storage compartment. I used 1" x 2" strips of wood which mount into 2"x4" 3/4" plywood side mounted brackets (with notches cut to accomodate the strips - I doubled the thickness of the brackets to avoid the ends of the strips from slipping out) The rear most brackets and supporting strip are fixed in place and support the bottom part of the chair legs. The side brackets are mounted about 8" to 10" from the top of the compartment - need to experiment. The foward strip lies horizontal while the chairs are loaded, then are rotated to a vertical (ie 2" width is now vertical) which locks the cushion chair side tight against the ceiling. The strips are located about 24" apart and are padded to avoid scratching.

This arrangement keeps them out of the way, easy to load/unload, and uses space otherwise wasted. Good luck.

Is there any chance you could take a picture (or 2) and post to the sight? Because we do not full-time we leave the two extra chairs home for the short trips but like to take them on the long trips. Being able to store them in a unused area would be great.

Thanks

I'm happy to post a pic but it will be a couple of weeks as I'm presently traveling.

We carry two sleeping bags for emergency use. I slide one chair into each. Stack chairs on bottom of basement compartment. Light stuff on top of bagged chairs. No damage in two years. Used the bags more than the chairs (2x) in two years.

-Dean, thanks for the reply, for now I am going to build a box, line it with carpet or carpet pad and lay the chairs on their side vertically with foam between the two. Not sure if I will in stall a lid or leave the box open on top. The whole thing should measure 40"X 29"X 18" deep. It will take up space but should afford the max in protection Larry-- In Country-Coach- Owners@yahoogroups.com, "gains44" wrote:

I had covers made for our chairs out of heavy twill type material with drawstring tops. The chairs just slide into their "bags" - similar to a pillow into a pillow case - and in the 3 plus years of full timing, we have had no damage to them.
In our 2000 CC Allure there were two hooks in the storage bay where we store the chairs. My husband puts the chairs in (on edge - not flat) and secures them with a bungee cord. They never wiggle a bit!

Good Luck.

--Kathy, sort of the way I was going to approach the problem. I planned to use a box arrangement made from 1/4" ply to set the chairs on their sides because I have pull-out trays in both thru-bays and there isn't anyway to support the chairs other than hanging them from the top of the bay. Might do that if the box doesn't suit me .
Thanks for the help.
