Hi all: Here is another voice on tire pressure vs weight. Have been talking to my neighbor about same. He is a 35 year veteran of tire sales and several years of A-Weight-We-Go travels. After several discussions with him, I would recommend that everyone does the following: (1) Absolute first: set drive height! (2) Guess at weight placement of "stuff," (3) Set all tires at same pressure, (4) Weigh each wheel. Be sure diesel & L.P. are full, both pilot and co-pilot are aboard. If you normally drive with liquids in other tanks, fill accordingly, (5) Re-load "stuff" if necessary, (6) Re-weigh if weights have changed dramatically, (7) Adjust tire pressure to new weight per tire, (8) Adhear to manufacturer's specs on driving speed.
I had gone through all the steps and last week, while having the front end aligned, the tech found the left rear drive height to be an inch and a quarter low. In bringing up this corner, it puts more weight on the right front, so I am again back to step one! Lucky me! A good way to check to see if you need to have the drive height changed is to place the rig on a level surface, using a 30" level. Check to see if the four corners are perpendicular to the level surface-check the sides, not the front or back. If they are not--lucky you! You are now back to step one!
