Replacement drawer glide hardware, where/what to get?

Yahoo Message Number: 11143
Although the cabinets are sturdy and well made on my '98 Allure, the drawer glide hardware (tracks, rollers, mounts) are pretty flimsy and poorly operating stuff. If you put much weight at all in the drawers, the stuff starts to bend and make the drawers hard to open or operate.

Ironically my far cheaper National Seabreeze had vastly superior ball bearing glides. I want to replace these with something similar or even better.

Where do you go to find this stuff and how do you measure for it? Anyone who has done this, I'd really appreciate some pointers.

Dan and Ann,

I have had to replace the brackets that are attached to the back of the cabinet. Have had several several break and found some at Lowe's and also a good RV supply store. It is a little difficult to get height and width adjusted but with a liitle measuring and marking it is pretty easy. Bu sure to get the brackets that have mor plastic in them than the ones you are taking out. That reminds, I have two more drawers to do before the next trip.

Dan -

You might also check Home Depot - ask in the hardware aisle. I just bought a set of slides for the drawer in the desk I put where the small sofa was. They have a small display of 4 different slides and I seem to recall one looked a lot like the ones in my coach - including the lip so you have to lift up bit top open it.

Thanks. I'm looking for slides that are of higher quality than this junk CC put in.

Dan, after I installed the new back brackets, I have had no problems with the slides. My back brackets kept breaking. The brackets that I got are heavey duty ones and not expensive.
I had asked this before-- your screen name "Mainecoons"- is it because you have that breed of cat? We had one come to us, nearly starved to death, this past February and he is one loveable cat.

At the Spring Rally in TN., I purchased new style drawer hardware from the CC Parts Truck. They are for better built than my OEM and are installed on newer model coaches, but will fit on my 2000 Allure cabinets. I don't remember the price, but it was in line with prices I got from Home Depot etc.

FYI: further info on the CC drawer hardware
I got the Coach out of storage for a trip and looked at the Drawer hardware I purchased this spring from CC.

I didn't see a brand on the hardware, but the construction is metal, with ball bearing rollers and has a tension device that keep the drawer shut. With this hardware, you no longer have to be concerned with that old style slot in the front and having to lift the drawer to open.

Egon,

Do you remember the brand for the replacement back brackets or did you go by looks?

Doug,

The brackets have no name on the them. I found these at Canton First Monday in Canton, Tx. If you are ever in that area it is a must go, at least once. The first set I found a Lowe's. Look for brakets that are made of thicker plastic than the ones in the coach. All of mine broke at the bottom of the bracket so I looked for replacements that had very thick plastic at the bottm. The ones that I have replaced have held up, even the big drawer under the frigde. Hope this helps.

Even if they are not broken consider upgrading the slides in the pantry. The slides CC installed do not allow the wire baskets to travel out more then half way. And they are a bit on the light duy side.

I found slides at Home Depot that had three parts to them. Much stronger slides and the baskets now come all the way out. Gives us much better access. My wife considers it the best field upgrade yet!

They were very easy to install (electric drill and steel pop rivets and rivet tool required).

Yep, we have one Mainecoon cat. The other passed away. They are amazingly lovable and very focused on people. Unfortunately, they also shed INCREDIBLE amounts of hair. :>)

Appreciate your comments on the back brackets but we also want better glides as well. The ball bearing ones are vastly superior to the stock ones in our coach.

Hello Dan,

Did you see the post that CC has some better guides? That may be a way to go, if not there is always Lowe's and Home Depot.
Our long haired Mainecoon came to us this past February. He had been around the house but we did not want another cat so we basically ignored him. Then one night when I came home he came running to me with a very pitiful cry, so then he got fed. Daughter took him to the vet for a checkup and was told that he would have been dead in 3 or 4 days. We now have him and he is one loveable cat. Ours does not shed any hair at all.
