Reflective windows

We've got a 2002 Intrigue with the standard reflective side windows (mirrored outside finish). We discovered by accident that this coating can easily be damaged by the stick-on plastic outside thermometers like the ones sold by Camping World. If the thermoneter has only been stuck on for a relatively short while, it can usually be removed without any window coating damage. In our case it was on for several months before we were told of possible damage. Sure enough, when it was peeled off with the utmost of caution, it took several small pieces of the mirrored finish with it. Soooooooooo, be forewarned that if you've got one of these stuck to your window, it's quite possible that you've already damaged your coating.
On a related topic ... we have hard water spots on our windows from a motorhome wash where they used regular "hard" water and didn't wipe it down after the wash. Consequently there are numerous water spots on the windows.
With the experience of what happened from a simple stick-on thermometer, we are trying to clean the water spots without damaging the mirrored coating.
We've tried Windex withl ots of rubbing but these spots just don't budge.
Any thoughts or suggestions.

Steve,

Had the water spots on the windows. Used Gel-Gloss on them several times over a couple week period and now no spots. I experienced no coating damage. I don't sell Gel-Gloss or represent the company--I'm just a happy user of the product for about 20 years.

Steve,

Eye glass cleaner may be the safest way to go. I just got new glasses and they told me not to use Windex because the Amonia and other chemical would take the coating off. Also see what the window mfg. recommends and let us know.

Steve,

We've always used a mild vinegar solution to remove water spots from the film - usually just add the vinegar to our usual soapy water mix.
Has been effective for us - no film problems (so far).

Thanks for the heads up about the thermometer so many of us have...never thought it would take off the window finish!

Re: Cleaning the windows...it caused me to check the manual (CC's) and it said to use "P & S Sales Glass Creme." Well, I've checked the 'net and can't even find it there! Does anyone have a clue as to where to get this glass cleaner that CC recommends we use?

Until then, I guess we'll put up with the rain spots! (I can always find an excuse to not do windows!)

My older coach windows looked terrible so I used some stuff called MET ALL it is a pink polish that I rub on the window and it works great. I tried windex, castrol oil cleaner and other types of cleaners. I even used MPK solvent, nothing worked. I belive that the windows are not dirty but this stuff is actually bonded to the windows and that is why nothing works but some sort of polish.

Have been using Eagle One's 20/20 for 6 years and two coaches. Removes water spots with no problem. Just use new paper towel after cleaning each window pan e to prevent contamination from cleaned window to next window.
