Factory Service (Carrier & Sons as an Alt.)

Hi Mike,

My experiences with the factory have been mixed at best. I don't think there is any "special" way of dealing with the factory. They are overbooked, overloaded, and difficult to get into (schedule an appt with). I tried to get in this summer and they were 3 months backlogged. They suggested other vendors who could deal with the problems I had with the coach.
One of the vendors they suggested, was Carrier & Sons. I'm glad they did. They were excellent. They are the only place that I have been to that has done the work correctly, proficiently, and affordably. I had a list of about 15 items (most of it warranty items) that needed to be addressed. I had tried to get these items taken care of at the Cummins Care facility in Irvine, Calif. and they either could not take care of them, took care of them incorrectly, or couldn't solve the problem. The following is a list of items I had addressed:

Panasonic back-up camera not working properly Electric awning needed to be adjusted (did not latch properly once retracted) Alum right angles on bottom of living room slides came loose (not properly attached at factory) Bedroom air conditioner leaked water onto bed Bathroom shower door leaked

Rear mud flapped pulled through and detached from coach (Cummins incorrectly fixed it) Weather vane on top of coach came loose Bottom dresser door would not stay in when traveling Replaced broken bedroom sink
Engine oil, lube, and filter
other misc items.

Carrier & Sons fixed all these items in two plus days. Very impressive. Only two items could not be fixed. One is my bedroom slide which leaks water when it rains. They informed me that they thought this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed at the factory. The other item is my toilet will not hold water. They would have fixed this if they could have gotten the parts; they weren't available at the factory.
The one time I tried to get the factory address a similar long list of problems on my other coach, they only took care of some of the problems and that took them almost a week to cover. They sent me else way to take care of the remaining items on that coach.
Based on my experiences so far with trying to get work done on my coach, I now going to use Carrier & Sons exclusively to work on my coach. In my opinion they are even better than the factory. I will use the factory only when I have to. Same goes with Cummins/Onan Coach Care facility in Irvine, Calif.

Thank you for your advice. We are on the East coast so it's pretty hard for us to go to the factory because we are not full timing. We hope to find a used coach and hope must of the bugs are out of it. Thanks again.
