Pioneer Navigation System

I have been unable to get cities and secondary road information to display when using the map at 5 and 25 mile views. Is there a setting I am missing? I am used to Street Pilot III which gives that info which is very handy while in-route. Also, is there an easy way to disable the "safety" feature which prohibits looking for the nearest rest area and so forth while driving?

Alan,

I don't think I have the map problem but I'm not sure since I don't try to use the system while driving except what voice has to offer. As far as disabling the safety feature, I've never tried, our old system on the 01 Mag could be used while driving and I found that very distracting, and from a liability stand point I don't think I want to do that.

Alan: I installed my own Pioneer GPS. The installation manual may be available on the web or at a dealer. In my system the wire that allows programming the navigation is attached to the park circuit.
I suspect they connect it to the air brake light on the shift pad that is activated when park is applied.
I hooked mine to a 12v line off the fuse box and put a rocker switch on the dash so I can program it when I am parked without having to turn the ignition on, plus my co-pilot can fiddle with it once in a while. Of course I would never fiddle with it myself. (yea, right)
However, that is just a guess. Again, the installation manual will identify the wire if you are interested in chasing it down.
