Wiper blade & Direct TV

Yahoo Message Number: 12725
Hi All, Just a couple of quick questions.

First; is there a retail source for wiperblades, CC wants $50+ each for theirs and that seems unreasonable to me.
Second; I am finally up and running with Direct TV. I signed up with local channels and want to get the major networks [ABC, CBS, NBC]on the road. Motosat says I need a 'local waver' but Dircet TV is not real up to speed on RV use of their equipment. Can someone give me some idea what I need to do?

Thanks for the help, Larry

Larry,

NAPA has one for about $16 - it was in one of my previous posts.

The magic words to use with Direct TV are that your need to have a "motor home affidavit" and that you DO NOT need a Waiver from your local stations because it is in a motor home and you will not be in a local market. You may have to get to a supervisor at Direct TV to get someone who understands this. With the motor home affidavit you will send a copy of your motor home registration. Be sure to ask for ALL the networks when you send in the form, east and west, even if you don't want them all right now, because you can take them off later, but if you want to ADD them later you have to jump through all these hoops again!

I installed the new Anco Premium Hydro-Clear wipers from Walmart.
The original equipment Anco blade is only 26" long and the replacement I purchased is the 28" long blade, and it fits perfectly in the CC wiper arm. The Anco part number is 99-28. One trick to install them... the hole in the blade is slightly off center.
Measure and find the short end and install that end upwards. By installing them up-side-down, you'll have plenty of clearance at the top end of the blade. I then reversed the slip-in inserts so that the insert latch is at the bottom of the blade instead of at the top. My Walmart purchase was a lot less than CC's 26" replacement price.

I've used Direct TV for a few years now. Since I have it in my residence, I asked for and received an RV Waiver. Fill it out, sign it, send a copy of the RV registration and they will give you East and West coast networks.
The reason for the waiver is to allow them to broadcast them outside of the " footprint" normally assigned to your home residence. (if any)

As an example, I can't get my home network signals outside of the "footprint" in which they normally broadcast. Once I get about 300 miles or so away from home, I receive all channels but not the network and locals.
This is a change since 2002 when some FCC regulation went into effect. I used to be able to get my home signals wherever I traveled. It was nice. Not so now.

I'm a Snowbird and leave this cold country and head south for three or four months each year. In order to keep Direct TV folks happy, we shut off the home receivers and turn on the KVH whenever I head south. When I get home, we reverse the process. If I take off for a few weeks in the summer, I take a receiver from home and use the manual antenna. It saves the hassle.
