Transmission Temp

My transmission temp runs around 205 in normal highway driving.
As high as 235 in city stop and go. Would be intrested in some other reports. Had the transmission serviced, fluid and filter changed .

Interesting topic.

Our trans. temp runs 210-235. As the max is 250 we were concerned but have been assured by CC that this is normal although higher than the manuals indicate as normal. Our gauge indicates 175 when coad soaked with ambient temp of 55. I would think the needle would rest on the lower peg. Other imputs?

I have found dash guages to be totally inaccurate. They run 15-20 degrees above the reading from the Silver Leaf computer readings. After several conversations with CC, Cat and Allison, I concluded that the readings off the Silver Leaf had to be 'truer', as there were no indications that the engine or the trans was running as hot as the dash guage indicated. The Cat people told me that if the engine was really running as hot as dash guage indicated, the engine would have shut down.

Our '05 Magna runs in the 210-220 range with a high of 229 on the SilverLeaf so far in some 6800 miles with a northern and southern crossing of the Rockies. CC also said it's good to 252, but our earlier Magna's never ran this hot.

It may not hurt the transmission but it could shorten the life of your fluid which then would reduce the life of the transmission if it wasn't changed often enough. pwgfalcon wrote:

Richard and Norma, mine runs about the same temp. Watching the Siverleaf, on a hot day, at highway speed, I run about 195 to 200...same as the coolant temp. Stop and go or city driving, usually about 220 to 230. With a change every 25,000 miles these temps are, for me, nothing to worry about. The transmission and fluid are not challenged at these levels.

Richard:

Since yours is our previous Intrigue, let me say that my experience on the temps was the same and I was concerned when confronted with a few miles of city driving.

However, our new 38', which is heavier and has more drag with the tag axle and has the same identical radiator and shrouding layout, runs 15 degrees cooler on the Silverleaf and about the same on the analog gauge.
With that, I realy question the realibility and accuracy of the Silver Leaf. Even though I'd like to believe the "new" coache's gauges readings, I really wonder which is the more accurate, if either, yours or mine.
