Please give me a recommendation for a reasonably priced Campground in the Sarasota/Tampa area. We are going to spend January and half of February in Florida. It will be the first time for us so we would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Campground Sarasota/Tampa Mike,

I don't know what type of a facilities you are looking for. Our personal preference is for state and federal type parks, not KOA or commercial type. the latter two are okay for overnight while enroute to a destination.

You might look into Ft. DeSoto Park for at least part of your stay. I'm not sure the length of stay limitations at the park.. It is very popular with "us local folks" so you need to look at making at making reservations early.

Also Myakka River State Park

We like both of these. They have water and electric hookup. No sewer connection - have dump stations. The showers and restrooms at both have been immaculately clean when we were there.

At 36 ft. your are for both parks. I'm not sure about the big (40 ft plus) rigs.

Mike,

Good luck with finding a reasonable campground in lower Florida in the winter. There are none that I know of and the ones that are cheaper, $45 to $50 a night are full.
We just tried to get some time on the Keys last month in Feb. The KOAs were booked solid with no time open and they get $90 a night for 50 amps at Sugar Loaf Key. There are some cheaper places but watch out some of them are really bad, Your challenge will be to find a decent place that has space, not finding a good price. You need to make reservations in June, many campers come for several months and book sites for the entire season. you just need to keep calling some cg till they get a cancellation. In Tampa try Lazy Days Rally Park or the Encore, in the Sarasota area try Sun and Fun.
