Slides without problems

We have two slides and have worried about leaks, but have had none.
The 3M RV gutters we installed should help particularly with the A/C units running water all over the sides in the past. CC says they put pans under the A/C units with drain lines in coaches built a short time after our coach. Coaches built prior to ours drain water all over the top of the coach. The RV gutters also help with rain and moisture that comes at night in many humid parts of the courtry. We have had no fluid leaks from the slides. They have always worked well. John

we have 2 slides and we have been in a lot of water- no problems (lots of other problems) but so far so good on the slides. There have been a lot of changes in CC slide design over the years. We are told the 2002 which we have has heavy slides and was expensive to manufacture and was changed in 03. Maybe they are good but the penalty was weight & expense. It would be interesting to know from others who know more about the slide changes over the years.

You wanted to know about slides. I asked that same question of Damon ( salesman @ Guaranty RV) a short time ago. Here is his response :
"Country Coach used a 2 ram HWH slide system from start till 2001. In 2001 they switched to a 4 ram (smaller rams) integrated HWH slide system, and now today we use both.

The 2 ram system is mounted in the chassis and the benefit is that since the two arms are longer it will extend further (up to 32") for dinette/sofa slides. When they did a galley slide in 1998, they made it 24" because of the weight of the galley and they did not want the galley to be to deep.

The negative to this system is it robs quite a bit of basement storage (smaller doors on roadside) and the room had to be cambered in on top to keep a tight seal. You have nothing sucking the top in tight except the camber. When you retract this room you will see the top touch first, then sides, and bottom last.
In 1999 & 2000 everyone was buying galley slides, that was the slide to have.

So in 2001 CC & HWH engineered the new 4 ram system which was integrated into the room itself. It featured a hydraulic ram in every corner, so this room moved straight in and out and sealed up very tight. It also fit very flush on the exterior, when it first came out people would walk buy and say "oh my, no slide on that coach" if they were retracted.

This also allowed Country Coach to build the chassis easier as they did not have to integrate any slide hardware, it was all on the coach.
This slide did not touch the basement, the bay doors were now the same size on both sides. The only negative to this system is it had an 18" max. travel and you lost almost all your storage under your sofa. What you lost under your sofa you picked up 10 fold in the exterior roadside bays, now a "dual directional tray" was very useful.

Then in 2003 with the triple slides coming out we went back to the good old 32" dinette/sofa slide on the roadside with a few modifications. It is a flat floor slide and they cut the area out between the two arms to give you back exterior storage. We use the 4 ram slide on the curbside."

Our 1998 Allure has the great room slide. We keep the mechanism clean and greased. The outside top seam leaked at the corner, was supposedly "fixed" by Buddy Gregg, the "fix" was slopping some silicone calk on it--suprise, leaked again. I fixed it right, no problem since then.
