Slide problem

I just drove my coach 30 miles, and after parking, neither slide will go out. They went in just fine before I left the park this morning. I checked the breakers and they are not tripped. I called Country Coach, but they are busy and will call me back "sometime today". Hopefully I can get an answer from this list sooner than that!

Ree, if it was me having this problem (and it has been) I would check that the parking brake was on and that the ignition key was on. That didn't work for me so I had to go into the passenger side rear compartment where the slide relays are located. These are subject to getting wet on my coach and fail when wet. I located a good relay amongst the four and simply used that relay for each of the failed extend relays. Then I purchased replacements and spares at an RV supply store. I installed them right side up which Country Coach did not. This has kept them from failing when wet.
I don't know if any of this is relevant to your coach as you have not told us what you have.

Thanks, George!!! I am parked at my office, in the mud. I was concerned about getting stuck, and when I shut the engine off, I did fail to pull on the parking brake.

I am having trouble with the kitchen slide on my 2005 Inspire. When sliding it out it will not go out evenly, and when retracting it will not slide all the way in, extending about 3/8" from the coach nearest to the front of the coach. I am located in southern california if anyone has a dependable repair facility that they can recommend I will be deeply appreciative.

Tony I am having the same situation. I have a Allure with 4 slides and the kitchen slide did not come in. In may case the top was further in than the bottom. I found that I was not completely retracting the unit.

Tony, if it were me I would make an appt and go to Colton Truck up in Riverside. It sounds like an HWH solenoid problem (possibly) and Colton Truck is definitely qualified to work on it. I have a friend in the Long Beach area and he is checking with an independent mechanic to see if he can be of help. The other possiblity, if you want to come to the Palm Springs area, is to call CC and see if the techs in the desert can take a look at it. There are also a couple of independents out in the desert that could probably do the work as well.

Tony,

I have had problems with the kitchen slide. What I found was the hot and cold water hoses were binding during slide operation. This might be a long shot, but its easy to check if you pull out the drawers from under the refrigerator. My first clue to this was when one of the hoses blew and started to flood the coach. I'm just lucky that I was there when it happened.

Matt,

I have a 2004 Inspire that is having similar problems with the bedroom slide. I had it worked on while out in Eugene in August, 2007. It was uneven and needed to be raised on one side. I took it to Carrier there in Eugene, OR. They worked on it for several hours and didn't do a very good job I thought at the time and am now have the same problem. I live in Northeast Florida and cannot just take it back for them to re-do the job again. I have worked on it myself and improved it to about 90%. It still is low on one corner. I need to jack it up on the low side and shim up the nylon piece that it rides on to make it higher. I can see what the problem is but not sure how to fix it yet.

Matt, Bob:

Go the files section and read the instructions I wrote up on the bedroom slides on '04 and '05 Inspires - and maybe other models. At the rally in Amana a couple years ago a CC tech showed me the failed weld in our rig and said he had fixed two other coaches with the same failure at the rally alone. Apparently it is not a uncommon failure. Adjusting the broken mechanism doesn't work because it just bends some more and slide becomes misaligned again.

Take a look at the files and see if that isn't the problem. It includes photos of what to look for and how to fix it - requires welding. And be VERY careful. That slide weighs hundreds of pounds. I used a bottle jack from NAPA and some pieces of 2 by 4.

It just seems the problems never end.
Coach was in for hydraulic leak repair on the passenger side slide. That is now fixed, but the driver side slide now has a problem. As the slide is being extended, during the last couple of inches of travel the slide pops loudly and then drops into the full open position. What seems to be happening is the side shifts about a quarter of an inch to the rear as it makes the final last bit of travel. My questions are: how safe is this and is this common problem? I called the repair facility and a shop person said it was safe to use the slide until I could bring it back in. I have a trip planned to Florida and it will be at least a month before I can I can have it seen.

Give me some input.

Hi Gary, make sure that when you extend or retact the slide that you continue to run/ push the switch for about 3-4 seconds after it stops. This make sure that all the air is out of the system and equalizes the hydraulic cylinders. I found this procedure is a must or the slides will not move in or out parallel with the sides and cause binding.
