I'm looking at a 97 CC with a Webasto hot water heating system. How reliable are they?

For what it's worth, my 1987 Webasto is still going strong.
Regular service is important.

Jim,

When you say regular service is important, does that mean change the fuel filter and nozzle, or is there more to it than that? Good to hear you are getting that many years service out of it.

Al,

I carry a spare Racor filter for the Webasto but the last time I changed it was 10 years ago. I know that's against all recommendations but the filter change is quick and simple if and when it does fail or even hiccup.
We replaced the nozzle two years ago but carry the old one as a spare. It was bench tested under high pressure and still had a nice spray pattern. No signs of cavitation or other wear.
I do clean the burner can/combustion chamber every year. It's a simple, but messy job. Basically soap, water and a scrub brush. Pressure washer is nice. If the chamber gets too sooted, it can overheat, causing the overheat fuse to blow. No big deal, until I learned the fuses are in the neighborhood of $50.00 each.

Regular service is based on hours of operation. Servicing every year is overkill for most folks. Think about your oil furnace at home it runs far more hours in a year than the coach units. Every 4 or 5 years are fine for most folks.
