Chains in the Siskiyous

Bob,

We live in Mt. Shasta and go over the Siskiyous quite often. We have never carried chains in our coach. Would not think of driving in conditions needing them. If it came to that point we would just sit in Redding for a day. The weather is not all that bad right now. Just keep track of the weather and road conditions at caltrans. I guess if your worried that you could get stopped and checked you could buy a set and put them in the storage bay. Hope this helps.

John: That's wise indeed. I have a coach #10762, just a few numbers from yours. I got caught in a bad storm in Wyoming unexpectedly a few years ago. Thankfully the thing was still under warranty because when the ice and snow melted away the next day, out came lots of Antifreeze. A coach shop had to R&R the radiator and repair. Apparently ice penetrated the radiator from the buildup back there.
I have since installed a baffle to cut down on the dust storm syndrome. It seems to help. Perhaps it would have helped avoid the ice damage.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I don't plan to be up there if the weather is bad. We already got caught in a snowstorm leaving Vegas on Jan 7th and although the coach handled really well, I don't really want to do it again. We'll check the weather report when we stop around Sacramento and if it looks ok we'll go through although Plan B might be to head over CA 20 to 101 if the coast weather doesn't look too bad.
