Has anyone done a tire upgrade to this size tire? and if so did you keep the 7.5" Alcoa's? Im due tires and looking to upgrade to the Goodyear G670's.

Jack: I went from factory installed 275/70R22.5 to a new set of 275/80R.22.5. at about 40,000 miles.
The /80 is about 2.5 inches taller than the /70 and fills up the wheel well much better. I have a speedometer error of about 5 mph slower than actual speed at 65mph.
The factory couldn't figure out how to set the dip switches on the speedo for me, so I just factor the speed difference. They also cautioned me against the larger tire on the theory that I may have a ride height valve failure and drop the body down onto the tires.
I have to dump all the air to get my coach in my garage and the body at the rear does ride on the rear outside duals a small amount. It doesn't seem much because the coach still rolls easily so it must barely hit the top of the tires.
Are you considering adding Smart Tire when you change your tires? I put them in at the change and really enjoy having the instant pressure readings whenever I want. Also it's a great safety factor having pressure and temperature warnings. I bought mine through a local Les Schwab store that ordered the system from Junction City where they supply the CC factory.

Good Luck. Happy camping

Thanks Larry
You did not mention of you used 7.5 or 8.25 wheels. I won't have the spedo error at the 275/80 tires are the same height as the 10R22.5 and only an 1" wider, but they are H rated two more ply and have much more weight reserve. They also cost over $200.00 more per tire. I'll most likly put the tire monitoring system on, if I can put these tires on my 7.5 wheels, if I have to buy new wheel I have to pass at the tire monitoring system. My latest quote for tires and new wheels is a little over $3800.00. Thats from Les Schwab in Eugene.>

Thanks Again

Jack:

I can't recall where the info came from, but I used the existing wheels. I believe the tire dealer had the spec's on the wheel width and as I recall my wheels are 7.5 width.

Jack: Go to the website of tire manufacturer, and look up specs for the that tire. It will list everything you need to know, rim width, speed rating, weight rating, plus things you don't even know. Very useful information. I went from 10R22.5 to 295/80 22.5. Also went to 9.5 inch rims on front only. I chose Bridgestone because of previous experience, and speed rating....best thing I ever did tire wise.

Hi Max

Thank's I have the information from Goodyears site on the web and it says I can use 7.5" or 8.25" rims, but Les Schwab sales guy says they can only put them on an 8.25" rim. I was just checking to see if other folks have gone this route. What did you do for the rear tires, stay with the 10R22.5 tires?

Jack, I went with the Bridgestone 295/80 and left the 8.25 inch rims. Bridgestone said that would be okay. The coach rides and handles better than new. It had come with Goodyears, but they cupped badly. I had them trues and they cupped again. My previous Beaver Marquis always had Bridgestones and so I went back to them. What is the speed rating on the new Goodyear tires? Good Luck Max

Hi Max,

Goodyear 670RV's are rated for 75 plus about 6700# at 115psi. Thats another reason I am wanting to change the 10R22.5 are G rated at max speed 65 and a max load of 5670# at 115psi.

Thanks for the input
Jack
