Clogged Bath Room Sink

Yahoo Message Number: 17069
On my '99 Allure, the bath room sink is stopped up with hair. Have taken the P trap off and it is clean, however the hair seems to be hung on the pop-up stopper. Most pops ups in homes can be taken out by just turning it one way or another, but can't seem to turn this one.
Don't want to put too much pressure on it and don't really have the time to take it apart from the bottom.
My question, has anyone had this problem with hair and were you able tp turn the pop up to pull it out from the top?

Thanks in advance,
Egon

Hi Egon

Mine has an 'eye' in the bottom of the plug. The rod that opens/closes the stopper can either be run thru the eye or, by turning the stopper 90 degrees, run beside the eye allowing it to be removed. The only way I know of to get it out is remove the rod under the sink (not too hard) or twist the stopper hard enough to break the eye (unpredictable result).

Egon,

Someone who posts here recommended using a mix of vinegar and baking soda to unplug the sink and by gosh, it worked!! I used enough of each to make a paste that was just thin enough to go into the drain and left it in overnight. In the morning, I slowly poured more vinegar into the drain until it started to move the plug out. It took about a quart of vinegar total and about a cup of baking soda. But, it worked!! Didnt' have to find a way to break the popup out.

Hope this helps.
