I'm at the dealer waiting for my new Allure to be ready. I'm now regretting not having a ladder put on. Opinions? And where do you recommend I get one added? I will be in Oregon in August so I could go to the factory.

Hi Patti, you can try making an appointment at the factory but......with Class Reunion, summer, FMCA etc they might be full. You could try calling Carrier and Sons for an appointment to get one installed. Carrier's number is on the group site under the service providers (I am not sure the heading). We didn't get the ladder on our coach and I don't miss it. We purchased one of those ladders that folds into fourths, can be a step ladder, straight ladder, or scaffold. It has a broad base that I turned into quick disconnect for storage and I added some pipe insulation for leaning it against the coach. I found the ladders just make the back of the coach hard to clean, are slippery when wet (I slipped on our fifth wheel ladder and hurt my shoulder), and don't help cleaning over the top of the windshield, chaulking the front running lights when they leak, cleaning the vent over the bath, etc.
I only regret having the ladder when I try to figure out how I'm going to set up my fiberglass mast for my flag. Think about it some more, the ladder we bought was only 89.99 and its a 300lb weight limit ladder.

We got ours at the Ace Hardware store on Houghton Blvd in Tucson, AZ. I have to get into the storage bay to get the brand name and its dark outside (boogie men and such). I've seen the same type of ladder in Lowe's and Home Depot but they were about $30 more expensive. The construction of all the ladders is about the same.
Check out your local hardware store, sometimes Lowe's and Home Depot aren't the cheapest.

My advice is don't put a ladder on. We have an 05 Mag and struggled with the same problem. We ran for several months without a ladder and then torn off an antenna in New Orleans going to the CCI rally. We needed a ladder and borrowed one from another CC owner and liked it so much we purchased one also. The ladder is a 12-6 inch telescoping aluminum ladder sold over the web in the Sportsman cat. Cost is about $189 plus freight. Then you make a cover for it out of vinyl material which will double as cushion when you place it on the side of the roof. Don't get the 10 foot telescoping ladder at Camping World, it is to short.

We do not have a rear ladder & do not miss it. Sams sells two ladders, one a Cosco brand, the other very similar. Both have a center hinge and both halves extend. Using the Cosco ladder unfolded about 35 degrees & locked the windshield can be cleaned, as can most of the sides. For such use, the ladder is free standing & stable due to its wide bottom. Fully unfolded & extended, the ladder reaches well above the roof. Two split pieces of Pool Noodle are used as cushion between CC paint & aluminum ladder. Retracted & folded, ladder fits against front wall of storage bay & frame rail. It does break the bay lamp. Plan is to move lamp to top of bay.

Would a rear ladder allow you to safely service those wet clearance lamps?

$89 for ladder. $3 for Pool Noodle.

Hello All,

We are considering a telescoping ladder to carry with us as we do not have a ladder on the back of the coach and all of the "thermostat" answers got us thinking, hmmm maybe we should carry a ladder that reaches the roof.

Any suggestions?

I am currently looking at the Xtend and Climg 785P 15.5 foot professional model.

Camping world, great, works, and will store in the back of my H-3. I don't leave home without the ladder. I have a add on ladder for the back. But still use the telescoping unit.

We have a Telesteps for about 3 years. It takes up minimal storage room and works great. It does take some getting used to and a learning curve to collapse it. I bought the tallest and it easily reaches the nearly 13' tall roof of our Inspire. The compactness versus height is what I like.

I have a standard 6' aluminum step ladder that I got at Home Depot for about $65. I keep it hung on the wall of the storage compartment. Meets all me needs and doesn't take up much space.

Just a word of caution, If one wants to install a permanent mounted ladder on the rear cap of your coach, make sure that there is enough wood molded in to the rear inside of the area you are mounting the ladder stand off's on.
