C9 Oil Capacity & Rear Passenger Bay

Very interesting post about these subjects. Will go see my local Cat service on Monday concerning the dip stick tube. Thanks for the information Jay.

The 06 Inspire does not have any warning labels in or near that bay at all. Did not get any call from Country Coach today. Maybe early next week will let the group know the results.

We recently took delivery of a 2006 CC Inspire 360 with serial # 51554 i.e. one # lower than previous posting!
Currently we have accrued 3,030miles with very good runs and wekends, but I have concerns that although manuals state 35-70PSI oil pressure as being normal, after some 30-50 miles and thoroughly warmed up, the oil pressure drops from 80 + PSI at startup to 40PSI when cruising at 55-60MPH. Even when climbing at lower gear and higher revs, pressure barely increases above 45psi. Oil level at delivery was "full" on dipstick and recently dropped to slightly over "ADD" line after last 2,000 miles. Adding4 quarts brought level to just below "full" mark.
CC suggested 40PSI not unusual and that a "lazy senser" may be the cause, so if not happy to have unit checked by Caterpillar.
However, three days ago, driving through a residential area after an 80 mile run, the engine dropped into the "slow running" mode, neccessitating parking the unit. 45 minutes later I was able to re-start the engine, and drive home.(3 miles). Subsequent roadside visit by Caterpillar field service rep reveiled prime problem with software interface between engine and transmission showing 109 recorded error codes. Even when codes were cleared they re-appeared with 5 + minutes. Additional software checks and tweaks brought indicated pressure up to 47 PSI @2300 RPM. (Still low for my liking).
Conclusion is that additional overall diagnostics need to be made on engine/transmission management interface by Caterpillar, due tomorrow. Should be an interesting day.

Tony, we are not far off on coach number but ours is a late model 2005 Inspire #51499. At any rate I would like to suggest , for the reasons of your issue and any further issues you might have, that you get a Silverleaf VMSpc software to run on a laptop. This software will digitally interface with the engine and tranny to provide more accurate readings than the dash gauges that are way off and it allows you to log information to see trend.

I posted in the "files" section of this forum a file from our last trip that graphs the oil pressure against speed for you to see how my coach performs. I was pulling about 7000# on this trip in 92+ degree temps over a 6 hour period. On other sheets in that workbook I have the raw data if you choose to look at it but also graphed the engine and tranny temperatures as I feel the tranny temps can get high when not moving continuously.

Anyway, I recommend the VMSpc and hope this data will help you understand if there is an issue with your coach or not.

Hi Kary,

We are very new to the big diesel scene, so not familar with Silverleaf VMS PC Software for laptops. Where can this software be obtained and where does laptop plug into coach system?. i.e. can it be plugged into from the cab area or need to use the engine management sockets in the right hand rear bay. If so, need connect cables also (from Caterpillar?).
Local Caterpillar service engineer also described a monitoring system which mounted onto drivers dashboard with scroll down menu for real time data tracking. I think the cost was around $500 plus fitting.
Am very interested in checking out real time data on the run for baseline pro's and Con's.

Checked your data in Files, very interesting and informative.

The hook up is under your driver side dash to the cannon connector that gets the information. I just set my laptop on the front dash and use a cigarette lighter adapter for power to the PC. The PC interfaces with the VMSpc junction box that is in turn connected to the cannon connector I mentioned. Very easy to install your self and yields great logging data as I posted for you to see.
