Brake squeak

I need some advise from the mechanics in our group: Our coach has 27,000 miles on it. Recently, the brakes have started to squeak. I have noticed any decline in braking efficiency, but they make noise whenever I use them, regardless of how much they have been used. Any suggestions?

Dale: My brakes squeak a lot also. It is intermittent. I had the factory look at them under warranty and a Freightliner shop in town while still under warranty. Neither of them did anything but blow the dust out of them.
Apparently it is caused by glazing of the drums and brake dust. I wonder if it is caused by the shoes vibrating against the drums as the leading edge comes in contact with the drum.
I questioned about cutting a 45 degree angle in the leading edge of the lining like I've seen done on automobiles. I've seen brake shops take the shoes to a grinder and cut a small angle in the leading edge and it works.
The mechanic looked at me as if I had just asked him to adopt Celibacy as a way of life. They said they wouldn't do anything that would compromise the braking system in any way.

Oh well, I live with it. Anybody else had any luck?

Dale,

Our 01' Intrique's front wheel brakes squeal too. They start at 20 mph and continue until stop. I have been told that only a break job will cure the problelm. CRC makes a product for disc rotors but it would involve pulling the wheel and coating the drum. For now we will just live with it. I would love to find a cure but it not tops on my list like replacement of the air dryer.

Ours squeak too...mechanic said to use gentle pressure on them initially and they'll squeak less...
Yeah, we live with it too...other things higher on our list!

After my coach has been sitting at the house for several weeks, my brakes squeak as I am going down the driveway to get on the street.
After a couple of stop and go on the street to get the coach parked in front of the house the brakes stop squeaking.
Am wondering, even though that I want to go does the coach not want to go, therefore the squeal? However, when we are ready to go back home the coach does not jump around or seem happy otherwise to be going home. All kidding aside, it really seems odd for the brakes to squeal only at the beginning and that's it.

Egon, it's the nature of the beast. I'm on my third CC and every one of them has squeaky brakes in the morning. It helps wake up the rest of the RV park when I get an early start.

Hey Walt, you are in Texarkana, right? I am in Waco and every once in a while we get through that area. When we do, may just shoot you an e-mail when were are about to get through your area so maybe we can get a cup of coffee and talk shop.

On the brake squeak, after I get it on the road -no more squeaking even after we sit for a week or so.

Egon, you're right about us being in Texarkana. Would enjoy getting together next time you come through. The Four States Fair has full RV hookups for about $14 per night and are handy to us. Give us, a holler if you come through.
