Recent coach burglaries

Yahoo Message Number: 17871
Hi All,

I'm a visitor here to your group - my husband and I are actually Monaco owners (now, now no booing....ha!), but I wanted to make you aware of something that has been going on out on the road. Maybe some of your members are already aware and/or know of other instances.

Since March of this year there have been at least 10 coach burglaries, 7 of which are Monaco Execs, Dynasty's, one an American Eagle and I dont know the other models. They've occurred in Biloxi, MS, Santa Rosa, Fl, Port St Lucie, FL, Nashville, TN, North Carolina and the last one a month ago in Tucumcari, NM. To my knowledge, those of us who have been robbed have all been parked in higher end campgrounds.

Personally, ours happened in Nashville when we left for one hour to buy groceries. Our safe was crow-barred right out of the floor. We lost all of our jewelery, cash, laptop, checkbooks and credit cards. From what we can ascertain, entry may have been made with a masterkey. Apparently there are three people involved: one watches/follows where you go when you leave while the other two enter the RV. The other coaches have been entered through a window on the drivers side of the coach. From what we've been told others have had their safes sawed from the floor. In any case, a green Ford Expedition with a custom grill, California plates has been spotted in the area before the robberies. In one case the RV owner never left the RV park.

If you know of any other robberies or have heard of any, please let us know. We are trying to gather as much information as we can so we can pass it on to law enforcement. They are hitting high end coaches, so I'm hoping some of you may have information for us.

Thanks for listening !

Ann,

We were burglarized on Dec. 4, 2004 in Beaudry RV Resort in Tucson by someone using exactly the same methods you have described. We went to breakfast and were gone between 9:30 and 11:30am. They forced open the sliding window by the driver seat and took the same basic articles you listed.

The only things we can add is an adjacent coach owner told us he previously had seen people in a cream colored car knock at our door a couple of times, when we were gone, prior to the burglary. He assumed they were someone we were having do work.
It is very frustrating because it seems no one can or will do much about this. In our case, the very nice, Tucson police said they have a high number of RV burglaries, that are never solved, so it was better not to dust for prints because of the mess it would make, and Beaudry RV still has wide open access to their park.
We are fulltime, and believe me we have changed our routines, observation, and security methods. Our rigs are very vulnerable to burglary by people who have a method and know what they are doing.
The bottom line is don't leave anything in your coach you are not prepared to lose. My wife still tears up over the personal things she lost.

How many of the coaches burglarized had alarm systems? If so, did the alarm have any deterrant value?

My guess would be that no one had alarms. I know that we don't and can't because of our cats. The other information I received didn't mention alarms going off or being tampered with, so I'd say no. I also wasnt told of any dogs - so before anyone asks....no dogs, either :)

I am aware that there are alarm systems that will work even with dogs and cats. It is all in the placement of the sensors. Will do some research and post shortly. "Unless someone beats me to it".

[Country-Coach-Owners] Re: Recent coach burglaries Under the dash (driver's side) there is a toggle switch with two settings. One is normal (door, bay doors and motion sensor) the other is "door's only". Took us a few nasty neighbors telling us that our Schnuazer was setting off the alarm while we were away to learn this.
