Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #25 – October 14, 2005, 08:09:06 am Yahoo Message Number: 18750Well said, Egon. I just completed a round trip from Texarkana, Ar to Junction City and enjoyed the magnificent scenery of our country along with the magnificent performance of my CC. Too often we get enamored of gadgets and lose sight of the enjoyment of travelling. At the same time those who use all the gadgets enjoy what they are doing, also. I guess the old saying " different strokes for different folks " applies.Walt Rothermel 03Allure30811 Quote Selected
Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #26 – October 14, 2005, 08:18:09 am Yahoo Message Number: 18751Kathy,That is great. I know you will enjoy it. I hope you will share some photos of the installation.I have been looking at the Sharp LCD's but I have been concerned with their specifications on their operating temperatures. Do you know if there have been any reported problems with LCD's in coaches failing because they are parked in high heat areas? Here in Florida temperatures can get well above the temperature specifications of all of the LCD TVs I have looked at so far. What does Davis say about any potential damage to LCD TVs if parked where inside temperatures of the coach are way beyond the specifications of the TV's?Jim Hughes2000 Allure #30511 Quote Selected
Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #27 – October 14, 2005, 08:29:21 am Yahoo Message Number: 18752RonThanks for the info. I know what you mean by the expert on some of the wood work. I am more a hobbyist in work with wood, but I do have a younger brother nearby that is a cabinet/furniture maker. I think I will ask for his expertise. I have to just decide on which TV I want to install. I have been concerned about the temperatures the inside of the coach gets to when parked here in Florida. Not sure if the high temps pose a potential problem with the LCD TV's. I sent Panasonic a dew questions about it and have yet to hear from them. Did you ever look into that aspect?Take plenty of photos of your progress and share your experience as you proceed.Jim Hughes2000 Allure #30511Quote from: Ron Schonscheck\[br\]I just got home with a 20" Stereo lcd tv, Emerson from Wal-Mart, $399.QuoteI'm planning on cutting the head knocker back about a foot and > installing. Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #28 – October 14, 2005, 10:11:49 am Yahoo Message Number: 18753Larry,What is the model number of the Sharp you installed?Jim Hughes2000 Allure #30511Quote from: LARRY A HANSONI used a Sharp 37' LCD for a couple of reasons: LCD's are lighterweight than Plasma's. I wanted the direct cable hookup from mylaptop to the TV as a monitor, for showing pictures. It is done via DVI port on the Sharp. I bought a cable that is USB/DVI and it works like a charm.Quote >Now I can bore my friends to tears showing them pictures of my "far above average Grandkids".Quote >The modification requires removal of the factory component cabinet over the driver and fabricating a new cabinet to hold the control box for the Sharp, Control box for the K-5 Satellite receiver, multi- cable switch, DVD/VCR combo unit and 10 disc CD changer.Quote >The new cabinet is built against the wall over the driver and runs parallel to the wall.Quote >My two helpers: Trial and Error, were with me every step. I'm retired, don't drink, play golf poorly and really needed a project. This filled the bill. Oh yes, I still have all my fingers.Quote >You can see the first modification in the Yahoo photos and the latest ones also.Quote >One other suggestion: I installed a small 110v computer fan in the component cabinet for potential overheating. Fortunately I have not had to use it thus far since I have not been in hot conditions since the remodel.Quote >I have been traveling with some friends with SOB (Dutchstar and Pheaton) and notice that their component cabinets have an open side or bottom covered with screen to allow ventilation.Quote >Apparently overheating of components can occur and precaution dictates leaving room for air to travel behind them.QuoteLarry Intrigue 10762 Quote Selected
Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #29 – October 14, 2005, 11:14:02 am Yahoo Message Number: 18755Jim - Good question about the heat issue. I will pose that question to "John" of Custom Coach Electronis who is doing the whole install. Not being very computer literate - and no digital camera - I can't post the pictures but I have taken a few which I would gladly share with you. I hope to meet up with Jan McNeill next month and will enroll in her Computer 101 class and learn a few of these things!!Kathy Marsh2000 Allure #30536 Quote Selected

Re: New TV for old Coach Reply #31 – October 14, 2005, 08:24:36 pm Yahoo Message Number: 18767Jim I really haven't given the heat question much thought but maybe I should? I know there is a lot of sophisticated equipment in these coaches and they seem to do alright so I guess I'm not too worried. I took the old tv out today and set the new one in just to see how far off things were and they aren't too bad. One thing is that the tv should have speakers below the screen rather than above because with that configuration it makes the set too wide.Ron 98 Allure 30185Jim Hughes wrote: Quote Selected
