Internet card

JIm,

I use a Verizon card for internet access, I could never find an adapter to work in a desktop. So I just use the laptop for home and on the road.

Computer Geeks worked on it for several days and could not get it to work. Card worked fine in several laptops so its not the card. Geeks finally said it can't be done at least with that slot. I was going to try another slot but thought I would see if anyone else has gotten it to work and see what kind of slot they are using.

Am presently using Sony-Ericson card from T-Mobile. Card was $99 and service 24/7 unlimited access is $29 a month. Dial-up speed any where digital cell phone access. No roaming or long distance charges. So far very happy.

First of all you need to purchase a PCMCIA to PCI card install it into the desktop PCI slot. So it can be done. Geek told me the same thing that it would not work. But I was able to figure it out. Make sure you follow the installations instructions. After you install the PCMCIA to PCI card, power your computer up, insert the software for the edge pc card. I use the Sony Ericsson. Do not install the edge PC card untill you are instructed to do so.

If you use Verizon for your cell phone service, you can get their Mobile Office, which provides internet access free. Anywhere there is a digital connection to Verizon service, you can get free internet access, and Verizon is just about everywhere. Why pay for it? I am in Saint Helens, OR right now, parked at the local Elks lodge (for Elks members, power and water hookups plus a friendly bunch at the bar, for $10 a night!), and I am writing this hooked up to Verizon's internet connection.
