Leveling system aux. compressor

Yahoo Message Number: 18468
My air leveling will not work if the air system is not pressurized by the engine. If I attempt to level with no air, the small compressor does not come on and the light just blinks until it finally shows "excessive slope", even though I am on a failrly level surface.
I cannot find a schematic in the documentation showing how the compressor is wired. Any ideas? (The leveling system works fine if the engine is running).

Al,

On these types of issues I just call HWH. They have great tech support & have always identified the problem.

Just an idea.............

My understanding is that leveling is to be done with the engine running. The small compressor is for fine tunning only as it periodically corrects itself.

We didn't know why the auxillary compressor was there until we were at the Moultrie pre-rally in the spring. We asked the CC techs about it - since it never seemed to work - they discovered that the compressor was not working (of course, this was after the warranty time) - and sold us a new one for somewhere around $150. Apparently it had never worked, because our coach had never adjusted the level after we leveled with the engine running.

That's the way it work, a simple but effective system which also backs up the travel system if a leveling valve goes out. I don't understand the problem and i don't want to change the system.

Hi Al,

You will find that the 'aux compressor' does the leveling with or without the engine running. The engine does supply the initial pressure, so if the pressure is low the 'aux compressor' will operate longer.

Greetings...

When I park I manual dump to lower the coach to the ground then with the engine off I hit the auto level button then the small compressor takes over and runs until level. Mine has always worked that way. It will do periodic adjustments if left on auto... though normally we turn it off after things are level.

My final word on this:

I exchanged emails with support at Country Coach, and they confirmed that there is no schematic for the aux. air system in the documentation. There is a schematic affixed to the back of the HWH unit. Of course! Who wouldn't know to look there!
Further, there is no part number for the relay in any of the documentation. I found the relay by entering the information printed on it in Google. A resultant hit helped me to find a replacement, which is a different manufacturer but is a compatible part (the original was a White-Rogers type 120 solenoid relay, the replacement is a Stancor, part number 120-901 in case anyone else needs one). I purchased it from Allied Electronics, $15.75 plus tax and shipping.
