It's been all over the 'net for many years that an awning will unfurl despite the arms being secured to each other. Clickon http://www.awningsaver.com/ to see one of the several commercially available devices that will prevent the problem by stopping the roller assembly from turning ... until you want it to.

Thanks for the information on Awning Saver. This product seems to be for the Patio awning and may work for the "Slide side" too. I am wondering if ZipDee has a solution? A larger end cap that cover the area were wind can get into the awning would, I think, solve the problem. Anything that has to locked and unlocked like the patio side lock might be another solution. However, you could do some damage if you forget to unlock befor extending the slide. That happen to me too, the plastic cup and duct tape just unrolled.

If you look in the back of RV magazines (Motorhome, FMC, etc), there are ads for competing products that may work on different brands/models of awnings.
There's several problems I didn't mention in my previous message. Many people just don't understand how an awning can unfurl if they have the awning arms secured, whether with Velcro, bungies, etc. To them I say ... retract a window shade in your house, and ... holding the bottom strip in place with one hand ... stick a finger from the other hand under the shade fabric and pull it out. Bottom line ... it'll come out while the strip stays in place, just as an awning will unfurl while arms are secure.
Secondly, I've had guys tell me they won't secure their awning 'cause "that's what insurance is for!" When I ask them what they'd do if the awning unfurled and pulled the arms out, dragging them along the ground while they were driving across a bridge and couldn't stop ... what would they do? They replied that other traffic will just have to watch out for them!!! Is it any wonder that some folks have a bad opinion of ALL RVers??

The wind hits the side of the coach shoots up under the awning causing it to blow out. I have had this experience at least three times and in one incident it resulted in fiberglass damage and bent arms. When I go west, I put duct tape along the entire length of the awning and put strips of tape from the case to the side of the coach to keep the wind from getting under it. It doesn't look pretty, but it works.

Thanks for all the info on High Winds problems. I may have read some stories about this problem but not thinking it could happen to us. High winds gusts of 50 MPH are dangerous. A weather radio when traveling help me to know of the problem but I figured I could dirve in it at a slower speed with no problem. Boy was I wrong. We were lucky this time with no damage. Using duct tape over those awnings, both ends is a good idea.
