CB radio purchase and installation

Good morning group,

I would appreciate your thoughts on the following:
We like to use a CB radio, mainly just listening. The CB is now an un-advertised option on the 2006 Allures so we are considering installation on a future coach.
My expectation was that a CB ordered with the coach would be wired and installed during final assembly, thereby avoiding tearing into the cabinets and making holes after manufacture is complete.
Apparently this is not how this is accomplished. If you order the CB option, the coach is competed without it, then sent over to service (allow three days!) for it to be retrofitted.
In my mind this defeats the whole purpose of ordering through the factory except maybe a warranty issue.
If the unit is going to be retrofitted should we settle for the 'standard' handheld Cobra or is there a better alternative and what are the pitfalls of using another vendor?

Are there any CB techies out there? Any comment?

I've had two different hand helds in my coach and neither has worked very well. I'd suggest going to one of those CB shops which you find near a big truck stop and have a professional installation done.
You'll get a better radio and antenna installation which will function much better than one provided by the factory. Someone posted the name and address of a Communications shop in the Phoenix area who had fixed their original installation and made it work much better than original. You might do a search on the archives here and see if you can contact that shop for additional info.
