Florida Hwy A1A

We have never been to Florida before. We are 6 months new, full timers, with our first ever coach. We began in California in May, and are now wandering S/B Hwy 17 on the South Carolina coast. The plan is to travel the Florida coast on Hwy A1A. Those of you who have spent time in Florida please tell me if our coach will be ok on that road. I can't find anything that says I won't be able to use that route.

How big is your rig? A1A is a little tight in places, especially when you get down to Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties.

We live here and I don't see or know of any problems that an RV would have on A1A. In many places it is four lanes and the two lane sections that we have been on with our RV were no problem.

We have a condo on A1A in Daytona Beach and previously resided near the beach and A1A in Fort Lauderdale and so know most of this route fairly well. The only problem will be the large amount of traffic and the fact that many parts of it are only two lanes wide. Also there are many places that you have to travel off of A1A and onto either US Route 1 or I-95.
It is a very interesting road and in some areas very picturesque but I would think it is best done by auto. Hope this helps.

I have lived on the east coast of FL all my life and have made the trip the complete length of A1A in an auto. The trip was great.
However, be prepared for many stop lights through the numerous beach towns. As others have said, many parts of the highway are narrow two lanes in the out of town areas. There are no restrictions for you to drive on it that I know of and many RVers do. There are also some RV parks right on the beach side of the highway. Make your reservations in advance, as these fill up fast especially on weekends. Floridians like to camp in FL during the winter.
