Fresh Water Tank Cleaning

I didn't think the "water tank freshener" stuff was a disinfectant type of solution....just a 'make the water taste better' type of thing. Does it indicate that it will disinfect the tank/lines? Thanks...

How did you pour the clorox or the 'freshener' into the tank? As far as I can tell, the only entrance to my freshwater tank is via the pressurized water hookup, with one of the valves set to 'fill'.

Yeah, they make some stuff that you just pour into the tank to make the water taste better - but that's not what I used. The mix that I used is a disinfectant, too. It is supposed to totally clean and freshen the fresh water tank.

Hope it has warmed up some over in Bend.

Since you need to disinfect the "white hose" too, I usually have poured Clorox into the end of the hose (the end that attaches to the water pipe)...a little tricky (I wear old clothes for this job!), reattached the hose to the water pipe (but keep the water turned off), then wriggled the hose around to allow the Clorox to get to all the insides of the hose...let it sit an hour or so, then turn on the water at the hose bib which will "push" the Clorox solution into the tank; fill the water tank to full, open the various valves (sinks, shower, toilet) until the Clorox smell appears, then shut them all, let sit a few hours, then drain it all out, fill, drain, fill, should be OK then...Works for me...but tedious...think I'll try Glen's method next! We do this about 3 times a year...or more if we're in warm weather...not so in Bend, OR!

I turn the pump on and run water into the sink, and out the sewer hose. This takes awhile too, but we hardly ever use the pump, so I guess it doesn't accel its wear too much.

Bob,

You have to turn the switch on that says "Fresh Water Drain", then turn your water pump on. It will drain out in about 15 minutes (maybe a little less). If you don't turn your water pump on, it'll take forever.

On our Intrigues its a manual valve behind a velcro'd cover in the plumbing bay. Its the same panel that allows access to the water pump. You should see a plastic pipe leading from the bottom of the fresh water tank to a 1/4 - 3/8" valve. I noticed on the '06 coaches that thay used a 1/2" PVC valve.

If yours is like mine remove the cover in the water bay where you the valve for filling fresh water is. Open the valve in there and turn on your pump and it will drain it out the bottom.

In our 2001 Intrigue, the drain is found in the compartment that holds the water pump (which is adjacent to the "wet bay" area behind a little door.) Look at the tank (which is clearly visible) and see which hose comes out the bottom and disappears "below" the coach. There's a wing nut type of valve to open there. Yes, it will drip out...slowly. I open the K sink faucet and run that too...just make sure to check your grey tank when doing that. Otherwise, sometimes we'll just open the valve to the tank and know that we can leave it open all day and that's about the amount of time to drain the tank out without opening any other valves or putting the pump on.

Bob, I opened the low point valves and drain my fresh water tank.
The low point vales are located in that area you descibe. Fortunately we are finished santizing our fresh water system.
