Hellow CC owners;

I am trying to troubleshoot an exhaust brake problem and noticed the my red EXHUAST BRAKE light does not come on when I turn on the key. I don't remember if I ever saw it come on before. If someone could remember to look the next time you start your engine I would appreciate it. I have the Cummins ISL 370 with the engine brake system. Thanks.

Larry: On my coach, a 2000 Intrigue, the light does come on, but only for a split-second. You have to be looking right at the indicator when you turn the ignition switch on. On my schematics, it shows the lamp is wired right to the same place as the solenoid valve that turns the air on to the piston that actuates the exhaust brake. The brake is operated, for a half-second, when the key is turned on. Power to the solenoid is through the normally-closed contacts of a relay. The relay is picked up when the key is turned on, so for just a half-second, before the relay is picked up, the light (and the exhaust brake) is actuated. On my coach at least, the logic that operates the exhaust brake under operating conditions opens the ground to the relay, causing it to de-energize allowing current to flow through the normally closed contacts to the air solenoid. Look at your schematics and see if they are the same. Hope this helps!
