Need page that's missing from my manual

Am having a problem with the pacbrake and discovered that page 3-13 "PAC BRAKE EXHAUST BRAKE" is missing from my Service Manual. This is for a 95 Magna (#5266).

Anyone have a copy they can scan to my email? (cebula@...)

I will look today. As I recall from a recent Pac Brake repair, that page is not very useful. If you need urgent info, the Pac Brake web site is much more informative.

WOW! I had no idea getting a pacbrake rebuilt/replaced was going to be such a project. So far, two Cummins shops have declined and two truck service centers have declined. Both claimed lack of anyone that knows anything about them and lack of available parts. Am currently running with the air line to the pacbrake cylinder disconnected and plugged.
By April 23 we will be at our destination campground in KY for a month and I may tear into it myself if I can convince myself that it's doable. If I can get it out easy enough, I may just have a muffler shop make a pipe to patch in its place until I can send it to the manufacturer or whomever.

Hey Mike;

What's going on with your Pac Brake? I've worked on mine in the past.

I was on my way to Kentucky today but had to cancel. cracked a air pressure sensor switch. Had to call Gillig for the $17 part. Lost front brake air pressure.

I have evidently had the air line disconnected for some time right between the air cylinder and the quick release valve - probably over a year from the looks of the connector. I actually have a picture of the pacbrake taken on 8/18/05 that shows a disconnected fitting. (My son takes pictures of everything.)

After having one shop clean up the valve and retap the threads where the valve ripped off the fitting and put it back together we headed down the road. Seemed to work ok until one long downhill. Just as I hit the accelerator to go up the next hill, started losing power, black smoke pouring out the exhaust and the exhaust temp pegged at 1500 degrees.

I hit the switch to cut off the pacbrake and momentum kept the engine running until temp started to drop back down and recovered power slowly.

Needless to say, I haven't turned it on since then and had it disconnected and plugged off as I previously said. At least the transmission retard action still works. I figure either sticky butterfly, bad air cylinder or quick release valve hanging.
I intend on waiting until the 23rd when I get to our month-long stay in a KY campground to look at it again.

Mike, I had my independent shop work on my disconnected pak brake two months ago.

End result was essentially a rebuild of the old unit for $1300 in three shop visits. Although it works great and has a new cylinder, I think you can have a new brake installed for a couple of hundred more dollars and less time trouble shooting in the shop.

1. The air line was dangling loose. So had air line connected.
2. With reconnected air line, the butterfly valve would not release when throttle released.
3. Installed new cylinder, then all worked fine.

Hope yours is simpler and cheaper.

My Motorhome Chassis Manual has a page 3-13. It deals with Sway Bar and Front Shock absorbers.

My Country Coach Owners manual has no page 3-13.

Is the first mentioned page the one you want?

I had a very similar problem. The fitting at the release valve came loose.
The threads were stripped on the fitting going into the release valve. Sounds like your release valve is plugged. I used some high temp grease on the air cylinder shaft going to the pac brake. Took out the release valve and cleaned it. Added a drop of light weight machine oil to the ball in the valve and added a new air fitting.
I'd also check to see if the pac brake opens and closes easily. You can reach it from the top and move it back and forth. If it's tight, you'll have to lubricate it where it goes into the exhaust with high temp grease, or silicone oil.

Just had a talk with Pacbrake in Canada. They recommended I just replace it since it was unused for so long. A new unit can be had for $710 plus shipping. Sounds like the way to go.
My intent is to try to take the old one off myself, and if I can do so, order a new one and replace.

Mike,

My manual is a maroon three ring binder with Country Coach on the front cover.

The Title page is "CC Magna Users Guide/Service Manual" and has my coach number printed on it.

The T of C Section 3 is for Controls and Panels and ends at page 3- 10.

I guess we have different manuals.
