Mammoth Cave camping suggestions?

We are planning a 3 day stop at Mammoth Cave National Park. We were thinking of staying at the Headquarters Campground for 3 days. We know there are no hookups and only dry camping is available -- that's OK with us. I know the campground is wooded and I won't be able to use my Datastorm internet access or satellite dish for TV -- and that's OK too. But I do have a few questions...

Can anyone remember if the trees are hardwoods or pines? I don't mind hardwoods, but the sap dripping from the pines makes a really big mess on my nice clean roof and I hate pine trees.

Any suggestions on where to stay (pro or con for Headquarters Campground) or any other suggestions for camps along I-65 Park City? KOA?

Bob, the trees at the Headquarters Campground are hardwood and should not pose much of a sap problem for you. You also may want to know that there are two 50 amp sites available at a premium price. I stayed there last September and used one of these sites and it was excellent. I prefer no hookups in national parks but I had a customer with me on a road trip and the hookup site was available so....what the heck.

We stayed at Diamond Cave Resort last month...5 minutes from the Mammoth Cave Visitors Center. We had full hook-ups and a site for $25.
