In my case, my wife has sleep apnea, and has to use a CPAP machine. This requires AC all night long. Obviously, I am not going to run the generator all night, or even get up in the middle of the night and start it, even assuming I am in a place where it was allowed. So I must have the capacity to go all night, even after watching TV in the evening after generator quiet hours, and still have my battery bank at greater than 50% full charge (to maintain long battery life). I had two 12 volt AGMs, and they could not supply the necessary amp-hours to do that, so I installed the six Trojan T-105s.

I know others that simply hate the noise and smell of the generator, and combined with a large battery bank, multiple solar panels allow them to avoid generator use.

Why do you want more battery? Do you camp places where generators are not to be run? Is it for camping without air conditioning? When traveling we camp Wally World or Kmart or Win Dixie or....
Vacationing we camp close to the beach rather than in a numbered RV spot often as we can. About 1 night in 4 we park in a site with electric power & water services, so we can run clothes washer & drain two tanks.
Normally we run genset for air conditioning, that is enough to maintain battery charge for us.

I don't know the benefit of doubled battery capacity. Why do you want more battery?

I too have sleep apena and use a CPAP machine. Many of new machines have a 12 volt cord option. The CPAP machine uses very little current draw when running and I have even heard of people tent camping using a 12 volt car battery to operate the CPAP on overnite, recharging during the day while driving their car or truck or even with solar panel. If you are concerned with electric use, using it on 12 volts will probably be somewhat more efficient than using it on 115 volts as the inventer has some loss in effiency.

I on the other hand I have 6-8D AGM batteries and 2-4000 watt inverters with autostart on our 17.5 KW PowerTech generator. And Country builds a very quiet genset compartment on the Prevost line.
We can sit outside alongside the RV with the generator running and carry on a conversation with friends. The only complaint I have is it depends on which way the wind is blowing the warm heat from the radiator, which discharges out the bottom of the bus. Exhaust is out the back so no problem there.

I use a CPAP Machine and I had a small inverter installed on the 12 volt system next to the bed so when we are dry camping I use the inverter and if I want I can turn off some of the systems in the house. After 5 yrs it still works great.

Love that machine. Sleep great since I got it 3 years ago. I just plug my into the wall socket using shore, generator or inverter. As posted the current draw is low.
