Side-mounted camera

The newer coaches have side-mounted cameras that display the side of the coach automatically whenever the turn signal is turned on. I notice on my 2000 Intrigue that the Intec back-up monitor has a switch for camera 2 and camera 3. The only camera is the back-up one, but I was wondering if anyone has put side-mounted cameras on their coach. I would like to put one on the passenger side. It would not have to be switched automatically, I would just have the monitor on and switched to the side camera while driving. Is this feasable? Has anyone looked into it or done it?

I am in the middle of this exact project. Received the side camera from my Dad as a Christmas Present.
Have already checked the back of the monitor and tested the Camera.
Just need to paint the black camera cover and bolt on.
Fairly easy project.

Darold,

Can you provide the mfg. of the side camera? Is this one of the real low profile units?

Sure makes sense to have the extra visability.
Thanks,

A further update on installing a side-mounted camera on older coaches.
I contacted Intec, the makers of my monitor and back-up camera. They told me that they have a flush mount (similar to the back-up camera) that has a narrower field of view and adjustable orientation. They also have an integrated camera for mirror options for Ramco and Velvac mirrors. They sent me a photo of the mirror mount camera, I will post it.

In any case, the monitor has to be returned to the factory to add an optional switcher kit to allow the other cameras to function.
Intec was very quick and helpful with the information. I will update further when I have pricing, etc.

Allan,

Have you found a website that allows you to view the different types of camera options from intec.

If so, could you please post it here.

Thanks

Kevin,

We have an 05 Intrigue and have been doing research to add a sideview camera. After calling CC tech support, it appears that it is possible but needs about $1500 worth of hardware to make happen.
As the backup camera works through the Pioneer Nav system.. so would the sideview too. This is where the problem comes in.. The Pioneer is setup for the backup camera only and will not readily allow the sideview as an add-on. I called Pioneer and they confirmed the same thing. Their response was "No can do!"

If I am right after my call to CC..
A special switch needs to be added that reacts to the turn signal or backup lights. It would then switch between the one it detects as needed. Or you can buy a totally seperate display/camera unit that would need to be installed as an independent sytem.
Not sure if the Pioneer add-on will even work as the guys at CC were a bit unsure themselves.

Does anyone on this forum have a Pioneer Nav that displays the sideview camera? Love to find out..

Hi All, our Affinity has a Pioneer with side cameras that activate with the turn signals. I believe that the Magnas and Affinities from 05 forward all have side cameras as standard. Is that what you wanted to know, Russ? Dale

Thanks Dale,

That is the info we needed.. I had talked to both CC parts and tech and they gave a hardware price for side camera's of $1500..
I just thought the $'s were a bit steep.. as I have seen the whole setup, monitor and all for much less.

BTW: Please tell Candace we will be ordering the bed, but we have a few things to complete ahead of the order..

Russ and Jean,

I think the new intrigues have a side cam option. I wonder if they are still using a pioneer unit or have they gone to something else?

Kevin,

I sure hope CC went to a different mfg. as the Pioneer Nav is a bit lacking in Navigation quality.

It has attempted to take us down much longer roads just to get us where we wanted to go. 140 miles compared to 55 miles.

I have done some research on the web and am quit confident that the whole system can be assembled for about $500.

A Sony camera w/housing, a 12 volt Video switch and a timer switch should do the trick. We shall see.. love the challenge..
