Stupid DOT tricks ...

Just got to Anaheim from four days on the road, coming from Rockford (N IL), 2045 miles. Our new record.
Pretty uneventful ... good trip ... weak dash air, but that's pretty standard I guess from reading here.
One note of many in my log ... watch out for Rt 15 in Utah, south of Salt Lake City.

We were dring along, and I started hearing little pings on the windshield and coach body. My wife yelled "My God ... pea gravel !!"

Sure enough, they had recently oiled and pea graveled the highway.

Trucks whizzing by at 75 mph spitting pea gravel on everything.

I am 57, and been driving since I was 2, and have never seen a high speed freeway oiled and chipped.

Another record ... stupidest thing I have ever seen a DOT do.
Welcome to Utah ...

We oil and chip our country roads at home, and you drive slow until they get packed down. Hard to drive slow on Rt 15 in traffic.

We did end up getting a ding in our $1,0000,000, "no one has one in stock" windshied, but the campground knew a guy when we got in yesterday afternoon, and it was epoxied in no time. Hope it holds.
Just a heads up in case you are flying along in Utah, and wonder why someone would start shooting at you all of a sudden.

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Stupid DOT tricks ...How irritating! Our windshield incident was not near so crucial, but was interesting: We were driving towards Tucson, Az. On I-10 and the windshield was being pelted with something. We thought it was buckshot and expected to see cracks form any second. Then it was over, but the windshield was a mess...we had driven through a swarm of bees. There were bee bodies plastered all over the glass, stuck on by honey! That was a sticky mess to get off. 6 months later we are still finding bee bodies stuck in some crevasses.
