Our plans are to be in the Washington DC area during the month of September and are looking for recommendations for a nice RV park.
Thanks for your help!

We stayed at Greenbelt National Park, Greenbelt, Md for two weeks. No hookups but the price is right $14 a night and with Golden Age $7. There is a dump station on the way in. We found we had to back into the dump station on the road as the turn around is too short for a 40 foot rig.

http://www.nps.gov/gree/ Compare that with $50-$55 a night at http://www.cherryhillpark.com/ Takes about 30 min into DC even though it is only 12 miles down the Washington DC/Baltimore Parkway...just East of the Park. Turns into New York Ave and is the slowest part of the trip. We drove in every day and we arrived about 9:30 am and found a parking space that is free for 3 hours after 10am. These spots are all around the Washington DC mall on the inner side. No parking meters. And we never saw any meter maids checking and found no chaulk markings on the tires. We returned at the 3 hour mark....Hung around a while and then stayed another 2-3 hours. We found 4-5 hours was enough each day to take in the sites. Wash, DC can be exhausting if one does not pace oneself.

There is also a campground at Lake Fairfax in Reston, Virginia. It is reasonably close (5 miles) to the subway and has easy auto access to Washington sights. It is also near the new air and space museum at Dulles Airport.

We stayed at the Cherry Hill Park -- CG which is just outside the beltway on the northern part of the loop in College Park MD. You have to drive about 2+ miles to the rapid transit rail line or take their shuttle bus. phone # 800-801-6449.
Fairly nice CG, but our site was not too level. Easy in/out. If you are touring the Capitol sites, the rapid transit rail line is the best way to get around. We did it for 5 days, it was great.
Also, plan to have lunch in the Supreme Court building as it has a great cafeteria in the lower level that was NOT crowded like so many of the other places! So, if your are near that building it's a great plan to have a good quality lunch. Also the nearby National Library is simply beautiful, don't miss it --- They have a Guttenberg Bible on display in the front lobby of the building.

Enjoy.
