Country Coach Intrique 04 - overheating problem CAT 505 engine

Yahoo Message Number: 26036
We bought this coach 2 years ago and have only driven it for about 5,000 miles - after sitting in tucson Arizona for a Month (July 04) we took off thinking all was going to be wonderful - the first week we left Beaudry's the coach overheated 3 times on our way to Flagstaff - twice we pulled over when it said turn engine off and the last time the engine just cut out - fortunately there was a emergency parking area.
We were towed into Flagstaff to have the engine checked (CAT 505) they said they fixed it and it started overheating on our way back into California. It has sat at National RV as we are concerned with driving it (the engine is not the only thing that is not work - jake brake which is great having going down the hills).

Is anyone else having the overheating problem, jake brake problem / excessive rear end noise with this model????

Thank you,

There were numerous CC recall notices for overheating issues on this coach. I had overheating issues like everyone else until I took the coach back to Beaudry and had 2 day's of recalls completed. No problems since. You need to have this work done.

We never received any recall notices -- can you send me any specifics on where I can find these recalls. We sat at Beaudry's for over a month getting repairs in 2004 - then were sent to Rush Truck Center in Flagstaff AZ - they had it for 8 days (we had to be towed in as it was overheating 225 - 230 and couldn't drive more than 5 miles at a time). Then again at Desert Cities Auto Center (where CC told us to take it) so far no one has fixed the problem and we don't want to drive it as we have been left by the roadside 3 times in the first 5 months of owning it -- help -- any info would be great.

If you call CC service department, they can tell you all of the recall notices that should be installed on your coach.

Rita,

The 2004 service bulletin was for 2004+ CAT C13 525hp engines that needed several modifications to improve cooling system performance. I don't remember seeing anything on the C12 505hp engine. If you have an earlier 2004 it was the C12, the last ones made in about May/June 2004 were C13's. Which one do you have?
Either way, the other post is correct, contact CC service and review the service bulletin/recall status for your specific coach.

Rita,

I have a 2004 42' Intrigue with the 505 CAT. When I took delivery, one of the first things that was done was to change out the solid rear hatch to the engine with a new hatch. The entire surface of the new hatch is a grill of air holes. I was told about it by a fellow RV'er and it was confirmed with CC Warranty Support. The new hatch will have to be painted to match the existing paint scheme.

I have not had any overheating problems in 6500 miles but haven't really been in any situations where the outside temps have been excessive. I have changed over to TranSynd on the transmission and have changed out the original coolant to CAT ELC but neither should have any impact on engine overheating.

The second recall was from Holland, something to do with the front IFS suspension. This recall came directly from Holland.

The third recall was to install a strip of flashing at the very top of all slides boxes to alleviate the potential of getting leaks into the top of the slides. This recall would probably depend on what type of slide installation you have. My coach was built in August, 2003 and had the old style slide skins where the edges wrap around the entire slide box. In mid-2004 model year they went to a slide skin that was flat with a piece of aluminum angle installed behind the slide box edge and glued on a trim piece. I do not know if the flashing recall applied to the new type of slide skin installatoin.

And the 4th recall was from Hydro-Hot to replace the burner assembly. This recall depended on the serial number of the Hydro- Hot unit you have but it pretty well covered all of them.

The only official notice I received in terms of any recall was for the flashing on the slide skins and that came as a certified letter about 10 days after I purchased the coach. Everything else has been by word of mouth and follow-up to confirm.

All items could be taken care of by the dealer. However, the flashing installation is real tricky and needs to be done just right. Mine was first done by the dealer incorrectly, resulting in cutting a hole in the Carefree pull-down combo topper/window awning. The second install was done by CC and not only did that also cut a hole in the brand new awning but we found that the flashing on the PS side slide was not preped right and consequently the glue did not stick to it, 1/2 of it was just sticking out in the wind. I feel pretty certain that my last visit to CC in September, 2006 corrected the problems on all flashing installations.

Hope this helps..
