Hydro Hot Leak

Yahoo Message Number: 29689
Hello; This morning I noticed liquid under the hydro hot unit.
Checking this I determined the liquid was coming out the hole that the diesel exhaust pipe hole comes out. It is the special liquid. I removd the cover and have checked I best I can and cannot see where it is coming from. The leak is only when the electric or diesel burners are on. Has any one had this. I called Hydro hot and they were not much help check all the fittings. I am in Casa Grande AZ has any one used a repair shop in the area. Thanks Lee Ramage 2004 Intrigue 11784

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Hydro Hot LeakYou possibly have a leak where one of the hoses goes into the unit itself. The fitting is plastic and expands and leaks when the unit is on. Then quits when all cools off. We kept having to add liquid, but could not find the leak for months. Then one day out of the blue it started to drip when on, then quit again. Turns out all the fluid was going into the insulation. Once it got saturated and the crack in the plastic fitting got larger the leak finally showed up. Had the fitting replaced and the new one was brass. The insulation dried out naturally and we did not have to replace it. So maybe you have the same problem we did with that unit on our previous coach. It was an '04 as well. Now the new units all come with the brass fitting as the folks at HH said this was a weak spot and they were changing them all to brass.

Sue that is where this unit was leaking a person with SOB had had the same problem and went right to the cause and we replaced it with brass at $17.96 from Ace hardware however when we removed the diesel burner for access the flange that holds it in place was broken so will order that part from Hydro hot today. Has anyone used RV renovations in Mesa they told me they could replace the parts but I need to order parts from Hydro Hot Thanks Lee 2004 Intrigue 11784

Same thing occurred in our 04 Allure. Replaced the plastic valves with brass ones from Home Depot, cured the problem. Had to remove the rivet fasteners in the HH housing to access the valves.

Lee,

If you haven't already gotten a response or had it fixed. I had my HH repaired at Rv Renovators last year and they did a great job and got me in and out quickly. Very nice people.

Mike Rugland in Surprise also does a great job. He only fixes Hydro-Hot and Aqua-Hot and he comes to the coach. I'd give you his number but its in the coach in one of the bays at Desert West and we are in a hotel for the night. HH can give you his number. They recommended either Mike or RV Renovators. Mike is usually available in 1 or 2 days.

Kevin; Thanks for the input my neigbor & I replaced the plastic drain and fitting with brass can't believe they would use such weak fittings and we also replaced the diesel flange that was broken that was more of a job. Thanks again Lee 2004 Intrigue 11784

Hi Lee,

The plastic plug is there for a very important reason - this issue has been dealt with in many past threads: electrolysis will eat everything else metal. Put the plastic plug back for your own financial welfare.
You might consider an anode plug but must be the right type for the metals envolved.

John; The fitting that broke was a small section of threaded plastic that the drain fitting is attached to. This drain fitting is also plastic. This fitting is located on the bottom of the resivoir to the left of the disel burner the burner has to be removed for access. The plastic fittings come apart by pushing on a ring and the fitting just slides off the plastic tube that is threaded and goes inside the tank is removed with a very large allen wrench. Thanks Lee

I know exactly where it is now, Do you remeber what size it is? I would like to get one and keep it on hand. I removed the inspection panel a week ago to see what was in there. I found the hour meter and re located it where I can see it now. I hate having a guage or meter and not being able to see it. BTW 240.6 hours.
Thanks
