Runing both air conditioners

Yahoo Message Number: 1947
When running both air conditioners with the generator running, the the circuit breaker at the generator trips. I am under the impression that with the Power Tech diesel gen both airs can be operated. anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

how big is your gen? try this first. once your generator starts, wait about 5 minutes before starting one air conditioner.. then wait another 10 min before starting second. dont forget your inverter is pulling amps for other things and your battery charger will suck a tremendous amount of current when you first start the gen or plug into shore but it tapers down . You may need to adjust your inverter/charger settings so it doesnt go into bulk charge or you may need to split up some of the electrical circuits onto different legs.

Egon,

That is a common occurance with the 7.0 PTS gen on your coach. When you first start your generator up, the Freedom Heart (2000 watt inverter) battery charger runs for about the first 20 to 30 minutes, while this is running "in most cases" if you start both roof airs it will blow the gen breaker. Try running one roof air for the first 30 minutes then fire up the second roof air and see if that helps. This is one reason why the model year 2000 and later Allures and Intrigues went to the 8kw Dsl Gen. Wanna trade? ;-}

Damon, if i'm not mistaken, my coach has the 8kw diesel gen set. I will try the waiting period on our trip to Florida this next week.
Not ready to trade yet---all the bugs are gone in our coach so we will keep it for a while. Love the coach. :))

I also have the power tech 8kw generator, I can run both ACs at the same time as long as I don't have them both start at the same time.
The starting cycle is when maximum amps are drawn by AC units. I wait until my power transfer switch has timed in, the 2 minute cycle, and then I turn one AC on, after that has been on for a few seconds I then start the 2nd unit. The circuit breaker on the generator will also trip if you have any heavy load on it when the power transfer switch engages after the two minute delay.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Intrigue. At the Brunswick, Maine FMCA rally a Power Tech man replaced the breakers and I had no more problems. I believe the 7.5 gen's CC was using then were right on the edge, and they have now gone to 8.0 rated gensets.

Egon,

Double check your gen, a 1999 should have a 7.0 PTS. Its not out of the question for you to have an 8.0 PTS if you have one of the last 1999's built, but I would be surpised.

Egon,

I had that problem with my '97 Intrigue and since only run one Roof AC with the generator. My coach has two 25 amp breakers on the generator. When I fire up both ACs, it trips one of the breakers and both ACs go down. It does run for a while, but eventually trips. Now, one 25 amp circuit to run both 13,500 watt ACs plus whatever else is on that breaker seems a bit much to me. I was going to call Country Coach and ask them why they put both ACs on one circuit or if mine was wired wrong, but didn't get around to it. I guess the microwave is the other big draw item and is on the other breaker. Seems like a 25 amp circuit would handle one AC and the microwave better than both ACs. If I'm off base, I'm sure somebody will straighten me out, but I've given you a different slant on the problem. I'm also glad Country Coach increased the gen set capacity, but that doesn't help us, does it?

I believe the problem is that the rear air, charger, refrigerator, and water heater are all on one leg of the generator output. After having the breaker on the gen. trip a couple of times, I've learned to turn off the charger or not run the rear air until the batteries are up.
