replacing ceramic tile with vinyl flooring

Does anyone have any experience with taking up ceramic tile and replacing it with vinyl flooring? My 04 Inspire has some tiles in the bathroom and kitchen areas that are begining to crack around the grout.
After talking with a couple of tile guys I'm thinking about removing the tile and putting in vinyl flooring. There would be only one seam in the whole thing and it would eleminate about 500 lbs according to their calculations. Any advice would be appreciated.

The CC ceramic is glued to wood and will be a pain to get all of it off. I have upgraded our last five SOB coaches from carpet to Pergo some hardwood look alike, and some that looks just like the tile but is lighter. The problems are level floor slide outs that have a white plastic runner. They do not mar the carpet but can on hard surfaces.
We did one tile removal and made a plastic bubble to keep the coach clean and wore masks and ear plugs and used a grinder to get the glues off. We put a large fan on one end and left open on the other. Messy and I told my wife I would not do it again unless I was really well paid!
The pergo gives you a snap together no crack no grout line finish and is light weight and has 15 year wty on finish. Never had a problem and I just saw the 92 winnebago that I did 10 years ago and it still looks great.

No mater what you do you will have a dusty mess on your hands. When you first chip the tile off the floor, you will have to grind the thin set ( cement mortar) it to get it smooth, making sure you do not grind into the wood. You will have to do this evenly if you put in wood or re tile. Most floor tile is about 3/8 inch think. If you put in vinyl you are going to have a nasty looking edge next too the wood which use to be covered by the tile. The water closet flange is now sitting on top of the floor and needs the 3/8 inch of tile to set properly in my coach. If you do not grind the floor perfect the imperfections will mirror into the vinyl. On wood floor houses 3/8 partial board is nailed down first. You would want to glue it and nail it to the substrate. I have no idea what partial board or ply wood glued and nailed to a motor home floor would look like in 20,000 miles.I would not want to find out. If you decide to re tile, put down a slip sheet, it is a plastic material that keeps cracks from mirroring thru . Also use a good flex motor made by Laticrete. Make sure you use a porcelain tile. Or put down wood laminate.

Thanks for the reply John and Don. It sounds like the cure is worse than the disease. I was told by a tile man that there is a product that can be injected through small holes drilled in the grout that will flow into pockets under loose tiles. According to him it will set up very hard and stabilize loose tiles. I may try that on a couple that feel loose.

Hi:
I had a 2003, Intrique, 1st Avenue. A couple of tiles needed to be replaced. I had CountrySide in Junction City do the work. If I have the firms name wrong call CC and they can give you the info. The name is close and located near McDonalds. They did a great job. Get an estimate from them. I think you are getting into more of a problem than the one you are solving. But, that is just my opinion.
