Garmin vs. Magellan GPS

Yahoo Message Number: 35438
Following three years of service, our Magellan 700 ceased functioning and has been replaced with a Garmin Nuvi 750. It seems as though the Magellan more accurately pinpointed destinations than the Garmin has during the first week of ownership even though both products apparently use Navteq maps. Has anyone used both products and care to share an opinion of their accuracy?

We have been using a Garmin StreetPilot 330, moving it among various vehicles. It leaves a lot to be desired for accuracy. We just returned from a 7-week trip and had plenty of bad instructions from it.
As we approach a required turn, it gives the directions to do so. But, before we actually get to the turn, it seems to think we missed it and starts 'recalculating' and comes up with a new set of directions. We ignore it and make the turn. It realizes we are different again, it 'recalculates' and resumes back on the correct track with corrected instructions again.

To say the least, this is very irritating. I have a call in to Garmin now to try to determine if this is unique to our unit and a repair is in order, or if it's working as designed.
The dash-mounted, downlevel software Alpine unit was far better for use with the coach. Too bad we couldn't move it between vehicles.

Greg,

I had a Magellan Roadmate 3000T that quit one me after only 2 years of service. I then purchased a Garmin Streetpilot 7200 package that I love. Has all the bells and whistles and info is correct. Easy to see with 7" screen with a nice lady talking to you that has trouble with spanish street names in NM.

We have used the 2620 Garmin for three years. During the past six months it seems to frequently execute the symptoms Mike has described. It will get confused on route and go through the recalculate, new instructions, and recalculate again. I have not yet done the most recent update, but I doubt that would affect general accuracy.
