Building a Better Mouse Trap

Yahoo Message Number: 40078
Hi Folks,

Hydronic heat replaced the furnace and the hot water heater, the transfer switch was changed from Power Switch to Esco. I wonder if these improvements were cost effective in initial cost and 20 year maintenance costs. Add to this, data bus light switching, battery and auto gen start equipment, and the list goes on.
I would go backyards in some of these cases and maybe go forward with a solar array for the long term boondockers.

Fred,

I agree completely. Our coaches are way to complicated in my humble opinion. I have hydronic heat and love it. It came on the coach as standard equipment, but if I had had a choice I would have taken the old fashioned water heater. Why? I'm in Breckenridge, Colorado right now. There are probably 10 tech people within 10 miles of here who could fix what ever is wrong with it. With the hydronic heat, the nearest person that even knows what hydronic heat is, is in Denver, 70 miles away. I have an electric macerating toilet. Give me a break! Yes, I know why I have it, but if I had a say so it would be the old foot pedal gravity fed toilet. Why? Same reason as in the hydronic heat example. There is nothing worse than having your whole trip ruined because of some silly hi tech problem where there are very few people who have any idea how to remedy it. You shouldn't have to go through all the stress while trying to have a good time. Yep, I've had toilet problems also. Of course the easy answer is to go back to my tent. It never gave me one problem, and it didn't leak. Sorry to rant folks.
