Change to Transynd Fluid

Yahoo Message Number: 40320
I've decided to install Transynd fluid in my Allison 3000 transmission during my annual service. I know that with two regular changes that the transmission is said to be "100%" Transynd. However, I remember from standing in the hall trying to hear (the room was packed) at an Allison seminar at the 1st East Coast Country Coach Reunion in Fort Myers, Florida, that there was a way to get all of the fluid in the transmission in a single change. I have searched this message board as well as some of the others and I can not find the procedure. Does anyone know this procedure or should I just figure on making the two changes? Thanks in advance for your help!

I had my transmission fluid changed over to transynd several years ago at the Alison shop in Coburg, OR. They replaced the fluid, then disconnected one of the lines going to the cooler and ran the engine just long enough to pump the remaining old fluid. The procedure is a bit tricky, but it eliminated the need for a second change. >

I was at that seminar at the east reunion, and the procedure was to drain and overfill transmission with two gallons transynd, but do not start engine. Next, remove the line on the transmission that is the return from the oil cooler. (look for arrows on the transmission, the diagram shows it on the left looking at the drive shaft end. the arrow looks like a 'v' upside down) Put the line in a container that you know when the specific amount of oil has been dispensed and with the engine stop button pushed in so engine will not start, crank engine until the correct amount of oil is pumped out. This in effect, flushes the oil cooler and torque converter. In my notes I have written, 3000 series = 1.5 gallons, 4000 series = 2 gallons
Bear in mind you overfilled by two gallons. I hope this helps, I did this on my tranny last year.

Please : What are the advantages of changing to transsynd. I had my tranny fluid changed not long ago and service facility had a lot of excuses why I didn't need the Transynd. My guess is they didn't have it in stock. At any rate I would like to have it changed again soon and want to go to Transynd, My tranny runs between 190-200 degrees for the most part unless I am in stop and go traffic, then goes to 225 or 230 sometimes 230 on a mechanical gauge. I found if I shift into neutral for stop lights, heavy traffic etc. it stays cooler, but I don't think this should be necessary. 1994 Concept 5111 with 450HP Detroit 8V92TA and an Allison HT-476 ATEC Tranny shifts well and I have had it checked by techs and seems to be working properly otherwise.

My service facility is giving me the same runaround. What gives?

Better cooling (up to 20 degrees I'm told), MUCH better lubrication, can withstand much higher temperatures, and longer lasting, as in longer change intervals.

-I attended a seminar on Transynd by Allison at the 07 Ga. FMCA Rally and they said that absolutely Transynd was better for any Allison. The facility I had my transmission changed was in the Allison book but didn't have the Transynd in stock and one of the things they told me was that they weren't sure how the seals in the tranny would react to the Transynd so I capitulated and had Dexron installed but I don't believe what I was told but wanted to have the job done as I had a trip scheduled. Thanks Bob:

This is my first coach and at this time my learning curve is not curved at all.:-)
I'll bet there is a sticker/tag in the engine bay that indicates Transynd. Haven't seem my coach in two weeks. It's in the shop. Not sure I would recognize it. But I'll get over there and ask for Transynd.

I am only a little surprised with the service manager. Looks like, at this rate, I am going to know more about my CC then he does.
According to the info I have available, ( CC Owners Guide ) the trans. fluid and filter should be replaced @ 5,000 miles. Filter & top off @ 50,000 miles. Fluid and filter @ 100.000 miles.

The coach has 11,000 miles and we are unable to determine if the trans. fluid had been changed @ 5,000 miles. So, I'll bite the bullet and get it done. Thanks again.

This spring I had our Prevost to a local private bus company who does my service work. They only have Prevost busses in their fleet. I suggested that maybe since it is now 10 years old, we owned it since new, we should consider a tranny flush. THe head mechanic suggested we flush it and install Transynd. They do that on all their own busses. So we paid the price and had it done. He feels we're probably good until we no longer own the Prevost. I've noticed no appreciable difference in tranny temp nor did I expect any.
