Is Avandia oven better

Yahoo Message Number: 2850
HI everyone. Just joined the group and hope I do everything right.
Our 2002 Intrigue came with a regular microwave but takes a very long time to heat up for regular baking. We wonder if there is a significant improvement in warmup time with the Avandia - and if so, we may swap out our regular microwave for the Avandia. If anyone in the group has experience with both kinds of ovens and could advise, we would be very appreciative. Thanks. Tom Sims

At this point, I think I preferred the microwave/convection over the Advantium. With the convection, you can turn off the turntable and use 11 X 13 pans for cakes and stuff. Or, use the racks and make layer cakes. With the Advantium the largest pan that you can use is 7 X 11. You cannot disable the turntable. Some of the recipes in the cook book call for larger pans, but on the website it states that this is a misprint in the cookbook.
Also, for the "speed cook" part of the Advantium, you must use microwave safe dishes, basically glass which are heavier and take up more space than the metal ones. I have not used it much, but did cook some brownies this evening. Using the speed cook, I cooked it as long as the recipe stated.
It is supposed to cut off a bunch of time, but they were not done. It does great baking potatoes! Does fine with pies and things that fit in the space using the turntable.

I would love to hear from some that are using this oven and like it.

A little info from a retired GE employee who sold both: A microwave cooks using a magnatron tube only. GE's Avantium uses both a magraton tube and high power halogen lights. Depending on the item cooked, Avantium will cycle between halogen and magraton cooking, and can be used solely as a microwave to heat coffee, etc. Advantages of Avantium cooking, somewhat slower than microwave only, is true oven quality food and great browing. A 110 volt Advantium will fit the same hole as a conventional microwave.
